comes to the dreadful town of Lies.
Some one, perhaps, asked him if
he smoked, and he lied to hide it.
Swearing is the next station.
W1ineglasstown is not far off, and
poor James is soon there. From
that to D)runkardsville seems but a
step, and D)runkardsville is right
by Prisontown. You would not
knowv James now, for the bright.

Here he goes staggering down
the way of life, fighting, quarrel
ing, by and by, in a drunken fit,
hurting some one for life. Prison
town is reached. Like Manassah,

ry for his evil way, may be forgiv
en, and if he can get out begin to
live a better life. God will forgive
even the worst drunkard, but if he
does not think the end is near it is
death and darkness forever.
But what about Charles? The
first town on his way was the
town of Goc,d Company. I. this
town you never hear lying nor
swearing, and the boys and giras
there make it a rule to obey their
parents. A pleasant road Jeads to
the village of Honesty, and one to
the town of Industry. Then come
Honor, and then Prosperity. Faith
and Love are beautiful twin cities
tihat lie on either side of the road.
And now this boy, Charles, grown
to be a man, is ever getting nearer
the grandest, most beautiful city
man ever thought of. it is the
Celestial City. God's city in
heaven. It shines so that the light
is cast all along the way as Charles
comes nearer to it.
The wise man says: "The path
of the just shineth brighter and
. brighter to the perfect day.'' It is
because it leads to the city where
God is, and he is its light. On the
perfect day Charles reaches the
city. The angels greet him, Chrisi
is there to meet himt, all is l{ghi

Howv to Make a Chair Sleigh.
I lave you ever tried to make a
"chair sleigh,'' on which to take
>ut sister or mother when skating
>n the ice? A simple way to make
one is to prepare a low sled of any
sort that wvill fit the bottom of a
Folding camp chair, one of the kind
that has a back to it. The sled
should not lbe higher than a few
inches. By nailing two pieces of
board npon two barrel staves you
can make a simple one. If you
want to use this sled simply as a
sled you may add a third board for
a seat, but if you want to have a
chair sleigh on call for use any 01(1
time, then keep it ready to screw
on the camp chair, already alluded
to, whenever needed, and you will
have a chiice to add to your pleas
ure the next time you go skating,
for, let me tell you, it is great fun
to push a jolly comrade uponl onie
of these sleighs. You should fasten
to the feet of the camp chair a
crosswise b)oarcd, both front and
back. TLhis will not interfere with
folding the chair when you wvant
to carry it along, yet will give you
a secure hold to screw the chair fast
to the sled.
A Helpful Friend./
A gentleman living in Bangor,
Me., tells, in an exchange, a story
