sorved during the entiro war. At the
closo of hostilitios he came back to
his home in Darlington and diligent

and enjoyll the confidonce of every.

When wvar was delafred by the
Uniited States against Spain in 1808,
Henury Brown was among the first to
volunteer with the Darlington Guards
and1 camoe to Columb)ia with that com
pany and1 a pplied to the United States
examining surgeon for enlistment. He
was rejected only because he was 74
years of age, and when informed of
his rejetion broke down and wept
liko a baby.
No lawv can prevent him from at
tending a Confederate reunion, so he
came to Columbia this week as drum
mer for Camp Darlington and proud
ly marched in the procession yester
(lay his drum sticks yiolding that
martial music whieb so often in days
gone inspiredl his white comrades to
deeds of valor on the battlefield.
