but I suppose by this time all of
them have secure:1 quarters for the
session. The burning of the Hotel
Jerome just at the time it did loft
a great many of thoem without a
home.
The race in which there was most
interest centred in the organization,
however, was for the position of
Speaker of the House. There were
three candidates: Hon. F. H. Wes
ton of Riohland, lion. Gleo. E. Prince
of Anderson and Hon. W. F. Stev.
enson of Chesterfield. The night
before the opening of the sessio'n the
candidates and their friends were all
buoy and the lobby of the Columbia
hotel was lively but when the elec.
tion came off yesterday the race did'
not appear so close after all. The
vote stood: .Weston 17, Prince 25
and St,evenson '78. -Mr. J. T. WiI.
son .of Lancaster was elected Ser.
