A Narrow*Escape.
One of the colored work hands in
S'uart Bros'. shop had a narrow escape
from death one day thIs week. Hie was
running a rip saw. The saw become
heated, cracked and a pIece flew out
and one of' the teeth struck the negro
on the neck, near his adam's apple.
Dr. Kibler- was called in and sewed up
the wound and the negro is getting
along alright. It was a nar-row' escape.

Mr. E. C. Witt, who has been at Beth
Eden, Miss., for the past few mout,he,
stopped over to visit friends at New
berry before returning to Gettysburg,
Pa., to resume his studies at the
Lutheran Theological Seminary.
Mr. Derrick, who has held the posi
tion of telegraph operator at the C., N.
& L. depot at this p)lace for some time,
has resigned to accept a similar pos81
tion with the Southern at Allendale.

Mr. JT. E. Norment, the popular trav
eling representative of the Charleston
News and Courier, was in the city Tues
day and Wednesday and paid us a pleas

Mr. G. F. W'earn, at the Ewart-Pifer
Co's., is gaining quite a reputation as a
window dresser. Hie now has at that

Recently the estate of the late John
R. Spearman of Newberry sold the
p roperty to Mrs. R. S. DesPortes for
$14,000 cash money. As tbere are sev
eral minor children who are interested
in the Spearman estate, the attorneys
are taking evidence to confirm the sale.

racial man, teaches his people to do

the best interest of his people and has

versions. This peole show signs of
