the posit,ion of Secretary to the Philip
pine Commission at, a salary of $8,000 a
year and expenses. Let them try one
or two Nowber'ry newspaper men and
see if they refuse.
In our last, paper the rules governing
primary elections, and in the paper
previous to that, the constitution of the
D.3moeratie party of the State was
published. Every voter should preserve
these papers and keep posted. This Is
campaign year' antI the votr wlll need
all the enlightenment possible to keep

and the first meeting called to order

At the opening session t,here were
present. all the delegates, a large rep
resentation froma tIie local tribe and
several citizens of the city.
The Mayor of the city, Dr. 0. B
Mayer, was introduced by Mr. J. II.
Hair, and in a very happy manner
welconmtI the visitors to our City, as
suring them that, all were pleased to be
honored with their presence and wish
ing them a pleasant time while in the
city.

secret session, which lasted nearly all
day, taking only a short recess for din

Tuesday evening at S o'clock one of
the most enticing sights that it has
ever been our pleasure to look upon,
and one of the most sumptt'ous spreads
that we have ever partaken of wals at
Klettner's Hall, over which he presid
ed and served, which is enough for the
people of Newberry to know that, it
was notling less than a most ma;llili
cent success, as the name of Otto Klctt
ner signifies to whatever it is attached.
This banquet was spread by I3ergell
Tribe in honor of their visiting breth
ren, and they have just cause to feel
proud of the magnificent manner in
which they entertained their guests
and friends.
The table fairly c .('ircled the lai go
hall, to which must have been setated
over two hundred persons. The hall
had been very prettily and most appro
priately decorated for the occasion and
the sight was a beautiful one. The
tables fairly groaned beneath their
burden, which contained everythi'
imaginable good to eat and served it
most (lainty and elegant manner; ana tl
after all had eaten to their full satis- c
faction nothing could be missed from F
