CAMPAIGN DAY.
The State meeting yesterday was un
eventful. The attendance was good,
and the attention to the speeches we
t hought was exceptionally good, es
pecially for these pIp!ng times of peace.
It was quite a contrast to the meeting
we attended there In 1892 when 11. R.
Tillman and John C. Sheppard and L.
XV. Youmans spoke and when the >lat
I >rm broke down. That was an excit
,.ig day. Yesterday was quiet and
e.itm and peaceftl. The passions of the
people have cooled down. We are glad
that it is so. Ther6 was no demonstra
tion, though there was respectful at
tention. There were many people who
came out to see and hear the candidates
so that they could decide for whom
they would vote. Some of the tandi
dates many of our people did P- t know
even by name and they had no -hoice
when they came. Of course, we are all
going to vote for our home men, Schum
pert and Mower and Sligh, and there
will be a scattering vote for all of the
1"tndidates.
For Governor Schumpert will lead
and Ellerbe and Featherstone will get
a good vote and then Watson, Tillman,
Archer and Whitman will get a scat
tering vote.
For Lieutenant Governor MeSweeney
will get a solid vote.
For Attorney General Mr. Mower
will not lose .50 votes in the county. In
f.tt, Mr. Bellinger does not expect to
get any votes in Newberry. lie is a
very clever gentleman and a good law
yer, but then Newberry has a good
la yer and a fine man for the office in
the person of Hon. Geo. S. Mower and
we are going to give him a solid vote.
For Railroad Commisioner the coun
ty will vote for Mr Sligh. but the others
will get a scattering vor.e, though the
uoenty will go practically solid for Mr.
Sligh.
For Adjutant General there is no

HEUNION AT LITTLE MOUNTAIN
BIX Crowd -0ood fpeehet-Much futerest
Aroused la Newbetry College.
There were between 2,000 and 3,000
people present. It was not too hot to
make one uncomfortable, and everyone
seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The occasion was the annual reunion of
the students and ex-students of New
berry College. It was a great day
Wait Friday-at Little Mountain.
This section of Newberry anti Lex
ington Counties is one of the most
probperous In the State, and the cause
is, it is a white man's.country. It has
dote much for Newberry College and
Newberry College has done much for
it. They were all there. They i7ame
on horses and mulas and in buggies
and wagons and carriages and carts
and on foot. These were they who
were Interebted in Newberry College
and who wanted to exehange ideas anti
shake bands with old friends and talk
neighborhood news The old folks
brought the babies, the young men
brought the young ladies, ard we all
enjoyed onrselves together.
As usual. they didn't forget-that Is
the gxx women of the section didn't
forget--to bring their baskets well
tilled with hartis and beefsteak, chick
ens and salad, pies and cakes &nd roast
ed mutton and all good things to eat,
for which these people have become
famous. And such a dinner as was
spread on that mountain side and in
the valley is not seen but once a year,
and that on reunion days, and makes
one feel that want would never come to
these good, ti-rifty and Indubtrious
people. The 3,000 or 4,000 were fed,
and that plentifully. If they were not
it was their own fault, for food was
there in abundance.
Refreshments such as ice cream and
lemonade were furnished by the Ladies
Aid Society for the benefit of the
Lutheran church. There was also a
first class barbesue served.
It was not our good fortune to be
pre6ent at the opening exercises, but
we were not alone. On bcard the C.,
N. & L. accormimodation train were
about 2'i4 f1ho Newberry anid * from

train was late-about two hours.
