FrIends Gather In Goodly Number for the 1 appy Ocesloh. Chappells, Jan. 8.e-Last Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. George T. ' Reid at this place was witnessed the marriage of Mr. Wm. A. McSwain of Oldtown and Miss Caroline Thompson Lee, who, though originally from Son eca, has for the last few years graced the princely home of her unolo, Mr. Geo. T. Reid of this place. His hand some residence, the old Lipscomb homestead, presented to the visitors as they approached a scene of rare beau ty. But the beauty of the exterior was oclipsed by that within. Evergreen festoons and decorations, woven and fitted by the (asteful feminine hands of affection and love, hung in lavish pro fusion. Promptly at the appointed time the following attendant couples marched into the elegant parlor to a march de lightfully rendered by Miss Seppio Mc Cord, and assumed their respectivo po sitions: Mr. R. W. Coleman with Miss Caroline T. Keith, Mr. R. W. Keith with Miss Sallie Donaldson, Mr. Luc ius B. Leo with Miss Sarah Smith, Mr. S. T. Martin with Miss Demptymoro Scurry, Mr. J. J. McSwain with Miss Ethel G. Reid. Then, as "bright the lamps shone o'er fair women and brave men," the happy contracting parties marched in and took their position be fore the Rev. J. F. Jacobs, who in a simplo, impressive manner pronounced the words that scaled the marriage bond. The beautiful bride wore an elegant white silk lawndale, trimmed with lace and passementorie, decorated with lilies of the valley; a most beautiful feature of the cercnony was the little flower girls, Misses Victoria Reid and Mary Reid, who in their "beauty and purity" symbolize the inture course of the popular couple. The attending young ladies were beautifully and rich ly attired, and the gentlemen were in black suits. * After the ceremony the guests on joyed some dancing in the spacious halls. Later all present were invited to a tabld spread with vare taste and elegance, served under the direction of the bride's mother, Mrs. Isabelle C. Lee. When the guests left for their homes, each carried the hope of a b ppy life for the now husband and his worthy wife.-Special to the State. ' ~Wanted. Suber, a prosperous planter of this section, .and Miss Mollie McCarley. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. D. A. Phillips, after which the groom and his beauti fuli bride, with their relatives and friends, were served with a supp)er of rare excellence. Some time ago we stated that thd literary societies at Newberry College had dooded to resume the public ex ereises or anniversary heretofore held in March but for the past several years abandoned. This year the two societies will unito in one celebration. The time has been fixed for Friday night 18th March.- 'Vhe subject for discussion has also been decided upon and the order of the debatersarranged. Aull has been chosen presiding officer for the occasion. County Board of Education Itoveried in the Moon Case0. The State board of education met last night in the oice of the superin tendont of education. The chief mat ter for consideration was an appeal case from Newborry. R. K. Moon, a school teacher of that county, was charged with immorality and the coun ty board found him guilty. Ile ap pealed to the State board, and the whole evening almost was taken up in hearing the appeal. Mr. Colo. L. Bleaso represented the teacher and Mr. Schumport the board. Tho State board revorsed the action of the county board and restored the cortillcate to Moon. The board will moot again today and complete its work.-Register, 8th. "The Newberry" to Have a Dispensary. The following is taken from the Col umbia State of Saturday: "A letter was read f roin Mayor H1. H. Evans of Newberry enclosing the ap plication of H. C. Bardin for a hotel priviloge. Mayor Evans ap)eared in behalf of the application and 't wts granted. Mr. Cooper believed in 'ght ing the devil with firo." Mr. Bardin states that his hotel dis pensary will he run strictly in 'accord anco with the law and that the privi lege was obtained for the convenience and accomdation of his guests.
