Cook, of Fairfield County, led in Newberry on Vriday night, 8th InJtant, at the residence of his son-in law, Mr. Lawrence Wicker. Mr. Cook had been suffering with heart trouble for about A year. He was 69 years of age. His.remains were carried to his I home in Fairfield County and interred on Saturday. Grogan, living on Mr. James M, Bowers' place, died of malarial homaturia Monday, 11th instant, aged about 42 years. He leaves a wife and flve children. In the roll of students of Wofyord College published in the Spartanburg Herald we notice three from Newberry County: C. M. Harmon, W. S. Henry, W. W. Hodges, all in the Freshiman class. Scott has offered a gold medal to that pupil in the Boundary street graded school who will get the best record in deportment during the year, the contest to budecided by a vote of the pupils. The engagemnent of ox-Governor .Jno. Gary Evans to Mise Emily Plume, of Connecticut, is announced. The marri age will occur on December 14 end will be a brilliant affair. Miss Plume was one of the most p)opular and admired visitora in the city last winter. Cul tured and charming in manncar, she made many friends who will be de lighted to welcome her to the South. Rev. J. B. Hood, who has been serv ing very acceptably for some time King's Creeok and Head Spr-ing church es, was formally installed as pastor 01n last, Saturday. Th'e service was held at King's Creek, and the charge to the church was delivered on Satur-day morning by Rev. Dr. Grier, and the charge in the afternoon to the pastor by Rev. T.1 W. Sloan. There was p)reaching again on Sabbath by Dr. Gier in the morning andl Mr. Sloan in the afternoon. Trho sacrament of the Lord's supper was administered on Sabbath. Trho liabors of Rev, Hlood have been greatly blessed in these churches, and there has bcen a revival of interest on the part of the membership.
