narkable and speaks well for the work
done on our system, that with the
eight or more miles of pipe not the
slightte8t leak showed up anywhere
when the pressure was put. on. It Is
creditable alike to Mr. Ho ward Neely
and Mr. P. J. Voss, who had charge of
the work. Mr. Voss is superintendent
of the city. We are told that such a
thing has rarely happened -a whole
system and eight miles o piping and
not a leak. We have remarked before.
but it bears repeating. that we have
one of the best s stems in the South,
and our lights show up iwell and com
pare favorably with any we have ever
seen.
Now the need is for a system of tvw
erage, and it should be put in witmhot
delay. A system that will reah w% here
it is most sorely needed val be i It for
$,000) or $1Q000 and there is nao uase
ftr us to be waiting. The healt11 and
Cleauliness of 'he town demand a sew
erage. We are not in favor of waiting,
but while we are at it .e believe the
necessary steps should be taken and the
sewerage put in.
We have heard a number of people
say that was the great need now. There
are others who favor it, but want to
wait. There is no need of waitin
longer than is necessary to get the sy
t3[U in. It is coming very soon, and
we just as well have it now.
It seetus to us that Gov. Ellerbe is
mnaking a mistake in his handling of
te original package houses. See that
they observe the law, but it is a tmis

That we gather, was what was done in
Columbia the other day. We have no
interest in Meetze but if a full grown

package storo and stated that he was
21 years old and Mecize sold him whis
