The New Lutheran Church About Complet
ed-A splenil(I aind[ HanutsomLe Edifice
The new Lutheran church is 'om
plete with the exception of the pews
and memorial windows. The pews,
carpoting and pulpit furniture will be
put in when the large memorial win
dows arrive from the stained glass
works in Philadelphia. It wili be about
two weeks yet before the windows will
arrive.
Messrs. R. P. Williams & Co., the
contractors, have done a splendid
piece of work in building the church,
Ilnished It throughout in a work
manlike manner, and used nothing
but the best material in its construc
tion. The plan of the church is a splen
did one, and does much credit to the
architects, Messrs. Edwards & Wilson,
of Columbia. The auditorium will seat
350 persons in puws arranged in amphi
t,heatre form on an inclined floor. The
pews will be quartered oak and the
pulpit and altar furniture will corres
pond in material and finiBh to the
pews. The carpet will be rcd velvet,
covering the entire floor. The walls
are finished in cream-colored kalsomin
ing. The ceiling is admired by all
who see it on account of its vaulted
appearance and beautiful finish of
white enamel paint. Each of the six
large memorial windows will be placed
in Ihe base of a trausept arch. Eight
of the arches form the ceiling. which
gradually radiates into a circular form
in the ceitre, and from which Is sus
per:ded a finc electrice clanidelier,whlich,
witli other incandescent lights, will
make it an especially beautiful inter
lor' at nig ht. We cannot imagine a
more convenienit or handsome audito
rium. T1his short refer*ence wvill.serve
as a description of thuis beautiful
church until it shall have been fully
compllleted.
Th'le clht, elh is much admired b)y visi
tors fr'om all parts of the country, andI
it is indeed an ornament to the towvn.
Services will be held in the church
as5 soon as the pews, etc., are put in.
The Herald anti News is glad to see
t,he work so successfully done, and
hopes that Newberry will sooni have
more new churches.

The Mouse Trap.
The en tcrtai inent at tiheopera hiouse
Tuesday night by the Young People's
Society of the A. R. P'resbytcrian
church wvas a successful affair, and the
mtusical part of the p)rogrammie p)leas
ing to tihe audience.
The curiosity of the audience, how
ever, or at least those who had1 not
''the idea" in thoir minds of what it
really was--no east of thle play being
given-was centered on the "Mouse
T1rap." This curiosity was rlievedi
somewhat when tihe name of William
D)ean IIowells on thme author of the
''Mouse Trap" wasi mnentioneOd in the an
nouncemient after thle curtain m'osc.
T1hen very soon1 the trap) showed a
well laid plan to test thle courage
of woman, even if only thme idea
of the rodlent was p)resent. Chairs, ta
bles5 and piano stools served as places
of refuge, and it all was very cleverly
performed-from refuge to rescue
could scarcely have been hotter.
Theli financial results were satisfac
tory.
