"Because your lepublican prosi

shouted Mr. Tilliman, amid laughter.
Mr. Chandler protested against
having Mr. Clevoland designated a
lepublican when tihe senator from
South Carolina (Tilhian) had joined
other Democrats in electing thalt

"Yes," observed Mr Tillhan, while

Mr. Chandler went on to say that

"And the senator should have

view the circumstances of his sup

said1 the South Carolina delegation
had voted against Mr. Cleveland up
to the time of the national conven
tion, being four years in advance of
their brethren of the south in learn
ing his character. But after he was
nominated, South Carolir.a accepted
the result, having participated in the
convention, and gave Mr. Cleveland
one of the biggest majorities ini the
history of the state. So that if there

exclaimed Mr. Tillmani, the blame
rested on the president individually
anid not on those bound b)y party

now,"* concluded Mr. Tilbunan, as he
took his seat, "I hope the senator

Mr. Chandler, continuing his mock
serious manner, insisted that nOW
that the president was gone, the

were responsible for all his acts,

The senator was speedily involved
in another oolloquy 'with Mr. TIill

"I must object to this iuparlia

"I have nio pitchfork," called back
Mr. Tillman, who added that he rec
