awarded the prize of $10 in the orator
ical contest at the Colored Normal,
Industrial and Agricultural College,
Orangcburg, held last Monday night.
The exhibition was very creditable to
the insiltution.
The Senior class took,a little outing
last Monday after the studies of the
session were finished and tried their
luck fishing. Mr. Abranis invited his
class-mates out to his father's pond for
a fish. They reported a big time, lots
of fan and - plenty of fish. Some of
their fish were noted for retrograde
motion. All fishumien catch fish.

week and attended one of Rev. Leitch's

work here now, and every man, woman
and child should attend his meetings.

A meeting of all who are interested
in the question of a school tax is
requestedi at the Graded school
building Friday evening, May 21, to
discuss and come to some decision in
regard to ordering an election for a
special levy to supplement the poll and
constitutional tax for school purposes.
All who are interested should be on
hand so that an Intelligent opinion as
to the wants and needs of the district
can be arrived at after being fully dis
cissed In all its details.

Sunday. He gave us a splendid ser

here Sunday night, and preached his
farewell ormoi from the text "Colie,
for all things are now ready." le throw
his whole soul into the effort, and the
church was crowded to almost suffoca
tion to hear his last effort. Many per
gons camue forward and gave him their
hand, and from first to last some 17 or
18 persons gave their niame0S to bCome10
members of tle church. All the
churches in town will receive some, as
well as Colony, St. Luke's and others.

gracious influence on our town. His
pulpit efforts are powerful, and the

are usually crowded, especially at

on last Saturday and was laid to rest, in

We made i.entiun in ituecsday's paper
of the formation of the Newborry Bii
cycle Association. It is a good luove
and we hope the association will be a
success and that they will be able to
secure the old . mrens road bed for a
bicycle track. It would soon be a pop
ular resort for wheelmen We give
herewith the constitution adopted for
the government of the association:
CONSTITUTION.
I-NAMI. The name of this associa
t,on shall be "The Newborry Bicycle
Association."
2-OBJECT. The object of this asso
clation shall be the improvemeut and
construction of bicycle roads, the adop
tion and use of a code of signals and
the consideration of such other matters
as usually pertaln to similar organiza
tions.
3-MEM131-niISmiP. Any white person,
male or female, may become a member
of the association by signing its roll
and payIng the dues hereinaftev men
tionled.
4--OI,TICes. The oillees of this aso
eiation shall be a president, vice-presi
dent, secretary and treasurer and an
executive committee.
The duties of the president, vice
president, secretary and treasurer shall
be such as usually pertain to their re
spective ofli-Ces in similar organiza
tions.
The executive committec shall con
sist of the three oflicers above muln
tioned and six other members to be ap
pointed by the association. All ofleurs
shall be elected for the term of one
year.
The executive committee shall have
charge of all matters relating to the
improvement of roads and the expeln
dit,ure of the funds of tie assoition.
5-FE. Each male memuber shall
pay an initiation fee of one d'l lar ($1 .00)
and each femiale member an inlitiatioln
fee of 50 cents.
The annual dues, afier the year 1897,
shall be one dollar foir male memiers
and fifty cents for female members.
All dues shall be paid on May the
first of each year.
