The Anderson train now stops at I Prosperity and passes Newberry in the morning at 8.30. The schedule in the fternoon is unchanged. The passenger train on the C. N. & L. now runs through from Clinton to 1 olumbia, passing Newberry at the c ~ae time as heretofore. This train is t .n charge of Capt. Gailliard. He, how- ' ever, is now on a trip to Mexico and t Da!ifornia and his place is being filled :emporarily by Capt. Burnhami. This a :rain does not carry a mail train but .kes pouches from Newberry to Clin- t on and to Columbia carrying mail for r bhose places and points beyond. The 'reight on this road still runs on the tame schedule between Columbia and Newberry. It is in charge of Capt. B. 3 '. Turner. A mail car has been put on hi train and the postal clerk is a negro I rom about Fishdam in Union County y the name of Rice. A change in the r chedule of this train is expected to go nto effect next Sunday. Just what ( he schedule will be has not been made 6 nown, but it is probable that it will eave Columbia early in the mnorng b od return late in the afternoon. It o vill run through to Clinton. This will v >e a good schedule if it is adopted. By t t we will have a regular early mail 6 ro Columbia. We have just opened a fresh tok of Buist's Celebrated Gar- ~T en Seed. The iaimes of several gentlemen have been :iient.ioned, and the meeting yesterday excited more comment and speculation han any former assenibly of the stock holders. The importance of this meeting ,aused a full representation of the tock. There was great unanimity in he election of officers and directors, and he selection seems to meet the approval >f those who know the men and are uterested in the mill. The offer is a very flattering one and ,omes unsought to Mr. Mc&ughrin. ft brings with it a decided increase in alary and lighter work. If Mr. McCaughrin should determine :o accept, it would necessitate his re inoval to Greenville and it would be luite a loss to Newberry. His place vould be hard to fill. Last week this correspondent was eft in the soup, and left in realistic oup, when I began to realize to the extent that "man that is born >f woman l ""tl of trouble." The boys in the army useu L ." i >f few days and short rations." My rations were not as short as some peo ple's pocket books, but my trouble was >f the highest order. Firstly, our cook, after having served faithfully for thir teen months, and in the mean time putting on about fifty pounds to her vodupoise. concluded that she would racata for a while-would rest a week >r so-in fact, she said she believed that she was taking the dropsy. Well I knew the nature of her dropsy very well. The true cause of her corpu lency was the regular dropping of all >urlicietlt quantities of good, rich ra tions into her gastric organ. My larger half and I concluded that we could get ilong for a while at least, provided that I would give her such little assist ince as making the coff'e, frying ham tud steak, bringing the water, getting :he stove wood, (oh, for something to ake the place of cutting stove wood) tttend to the baking of biscuit, getting nilk, scour the knives and forks, feed ng the chickens, killing the chickens, ,ooking hominy, pealing potatoes, boil ngeggs, sweeping the kitchen, washing lishes-horrible thought-I wouldn t vaslh dishes in the army,-and divers >ther little etceteras known only to ood house wives. I signed the con ract and all things moved along wimminglyfora few days, when anoth r "wave of trouble rolled across my ot peaceful breast." My "schwartzy" orter concluded to take in the centen ]ial, whether I was willing or not, and tway be went, and now that porter is ent-ennially away. In addition to the foresaid duties named, of the old ook in the kitchen, the new duties f porter and wvaiter nowv devolve ipon this feeble frame of mine. ['he trains must be met, the drummers mnd drummers baggage brought to the >ffice, meals to be carried on the waiter o the table for the boarders and drum ners, water to be carried to the rooms -rooms t.o be swept--office and dining~ om to be swept, silver to be cleaned, able to lie set, doylies to be hotelically Lrranged andl more dishes to be washed. )h horrow of horrows! What must I lo? M[y brain reeled, my hands always ~ot to the wvrong dish or place lirst ny legs trembled worse than they did t Gettysburg or Chicamauga. The >iscuits were burned, the hominv corched, the coff'ee p)ut in the tea-pot nd the tea in the coffee-pot, the hicken too brown, the steak burned none side and raw on the other, the offee and the tea set on the wrong side f the guest, the teaspoon in the sugar lish and the sugar-spoon in the tea up. Oh my! oh my! WVhat will de iver me from this bondage? I have 'ften said that four years of dreadful car was enough for me. Not any nore in nine, but really I prefer a mall, very small, skirmish, to the rdeal through which I have just uassed. This is my excuse for not vriting a letter to The Herald and sews for the last two weeks, and if his is not a valid one, I should like frr he Editor to mention one that is alid and I'll wvrite it uip.
