All :he mills have shut do n on account of the back water in their raceways, wIich prevents the use of the wheels. Harrisburz is mostly under water. ummerville and the Dublin suburbs are entirely cut off frora the city. The rai%vys entering the city are under water. The Knoxville and West era trans are stopped since noon. The last (Georgia Central train entered the city at 3.3 p. m., with water in their bo.xes and fires out. This is the hst train in or out on that road. The South Carolina and Rkicbmond and Danville are still above the waters, but cannot gt to the depot. The water is rushirz under the bridges of both roads with fearful ra->idit .~but as vet no fears are en-ertain-d for their safety. At ruidnight the river had reached thirty-five feet and one inch. and was risin abiout an inch an hour. Thirty eight feet will completely cover the town: but river men say that the hi-gh est point has been reached. The water has covered the upper portion of the city as far down as Campbel! street. On upper R~eynolds street the water has reached a depth r,f four to five feet, and many houses are flooded. 'to~far no serious accidents have hap peed. aithough many rumors can be heard on the streets. What is feared rost is the breaking of the canal dami between here and the locks. All the railroa'ib are flooded, and the Georgia train .'s the only train that can leave the depot. Other trains stop ouside of the city. All the merchants have moved their goods to high places, and should the ater go thirty-eight feet. as in 1% very little stock will be damaged. Telegraphic information from up the river to the signal service says no rain has fallen since .a p. mn., anid that the river has done its worst. Business was nearly suspenIded il day, andl the people are much excited. Every indi cation points to the river going down by 1 o'clock.
