Besides the original Annals of Judge O'Neall, this book will contain the names of all the volunteers who went from Newberry District to the war with Mexico; it will contain the names of all from the County who were in the Confederate service in any capacity that is, all whose names the compiler has been able to procure-with the cas ualties that happened to them; it will contain an account of the heroic death of Calvin Crozier, who died that an other might live; it will contain a sketch of the trying times of the Re construction. It will contain some Revolutionary anecdotes and scraps of history, not nsually published in the histories of the State, or of the United States. It will tell of Emily Geiger and her peril ous ride. It will cnta'n sketches of different sections of the county, of the schools, of the celebrated Mount Bethel. Academy, of the religious denomina tions, of benevolent societies, of Miss Galloway and her mission to Egypt, of chano'es in business and business firms, o07 descendants of families- who long ago left this county. It'will contain some account of War Times in Newberry during the late War bet ween the States. Nor is the literature of the countr'y forgotten, but specimens of that will be gi"en; the history of the newspape.rs wi-l be related. Some account of the old times, as seen through the, eyes of 'old men, will be given. It has been the aimof the- comy~iler to make a book, valuable not only for the present time, but for generations to conie-a standard work of reference in the history of Newberry County.
