should have some voice inl the inatter
of what covering he will use for his
erop. The only reasonable ain just re
quireirent on the part of the manuifac
turer' is that it shall be so covered as
to protect the staple, and enable him to
get it in good condition for his purposes.
We notice the suggestiol that the
farmers put up their own factories and
go into the man tfacture ofjute baggin'g.
but this does not strike us as necessary
or best.
We believe the solut ion of the miatter
lies in the persistent use of a good
quality of cotton bagging, and the in
sistanxce upon paymileit for net cotton,
or inl ntter words, the fair and just tare
for cotton coveritng.
If the farmers have the pluck it
determination, and patience, wit hi
which we credit them. they will
eventually win this light.
C iarleston is preparintg ftra big time,
to begin N overiber 4th. The pro

promlises great attractions, and ( 'harhes
ton seets determined to outdo her past
record. We have no doubt that all
South Carolina will be there, with
large delegations from (;corgia and
Florida.
The Sumter County Alliance is
pitching into Charleston on account of
the cotton covering l question. The
News and Courier very aptly replies
that Charleston has receivyed readily
aond shipped all tite cotton thfat has
been sent to her in good conditioin,
whether covered with jtute or cottoni.
Senator Hampton has been having a
hard time since hie gave expr*essionl to
his views on the race question. What
the Senator said was very fair and just,
