On last Wednesday evening the Lau rens train ran off the track just this side of Jalapa, doing considerable damage to the train, but fortunately very little damage was done any of the passengers. The engine and three box cars jumped the track and were badly broken up. The passenger coaches remained on the track. Mr. Hammond, the engineer, had his foot right badly mashed, and Mr. Butler, the fireman, also received some injury. The train did not get through to Laurens until next day. A IBurglary at Helena. On Mondaty night the store room of the dwelling of Mr. A. C. Welch, at IIelena, was broken open and a barrel of flour, a bucket of lard and a sack of sugar, and in fact almost everything on hand in the way of provisions taken therefrom. It was a very bold act, as the room adjoins the house in which Mr. Welch and his family were sleeping. The steeple to the door was drawn and we suppose very little noise was made. Mr. Welch did not discover the loss un til next morning. There must haive been more than one interested in the deed. On the same night some thief took Mr. Jacob Kibler's horse from the sta ble and rode him off. Mr. Kibler catught his horse next day, but the nman who was ca him got away without being caught or identified by Mr. Kibler. HIe was a colored man. They all have an exceeding hard year refore them-the colored people es secially so. Many of them, and some chites also, are in very straightened ircumstances, and all of whom were hoit in their collections last year- are taturally very careful concerning their redits this year. Economy and re renchiment in its bitterest phase is not racticed from choice, but from dim e nie es-ity. The Y. M. C. EDITOR : Allow me to sketch you a dot or two from factory town. The measles having subsided leaves this part of town in good health. The mill is now running in full blast, making an average of about fifteen thousand yards per day. I will say nothing about the quality of the goods manufactured here, for the demand for the goods is a suflicient guar antee. As fast as the goods can be made they are shipped and soil. Every thing looks prosperous here at present. We are all living in the hope that thq mill will be enlarged. More bouces are being built for operatives. Onr Union church here i> at last com pleted amidst all the opposition we had to contend with while building it. We organized a Sabbath school in it on the 12th inst., with seventy-one scholars. On last Sabbath we received twenty two more, making the school ninety three strong. While engaged in the du ties of the school the church was pre sented with a handsome Bible from 0. Klettner. Our hearts and pen fail to express our gratitude for this donation to our church. This donation speaks well for Otto, for while he furnishes nearly all of the operatives with food to sust.ain life, it a:so shows that lie wishes to feed them spiritually also. He has not forgotten that portion of scripture which tells us to "love our neighbor as ourself." At an early day the church will be dedicated, before which time a notice will be published in the pap--r for all the ministers in town, of every denomination, to be present and dedi eate this church as a U,ion Church. As it is getting late, and I am tired, I will close for this time by saying. I hope some one else will copy the example of Otto. Will let you hear from me again when the weather gets warmer.
