Attacked in Lot. Lad's Brave i'ieri
at Rescue Too Late.
Greenville, Aug. 22.-As a result of
injur'ies lie received when 'attacked
*and gor'ed by an uinfuriated bull, Wil
1lam -M. Cothr'an, aged 30, a farmer
who resided five miles fr'om the city
on the JLurens road, died yesterday
morning at 10:20 o'clock in the City
Hospital. Mr'. Cotkr'an was attacked
by the bull about 7 o'clock yesterday
morning when he entered the barn lot
on his pilace to tie one of the two bulls
which lhe owned and was pinned
against the side of the barn *by the
maddened animal. A heroic effort to
rescue Mr. Cothran was made by
George Carnton, a boy of 12 or lb years
who was in the lot at the time and
who struck the bull in the 'head with
a rock as the animal heldi the unfor
tunate man against the barn with Its
horns. The ladl's blow served to stun
the animal and caused the bull to re
lease -its victim, but not until a se
vere wounAd had 'boon inflicted.
One of the bull's horns entered Mr.
Cothran's 'ight aide to a depth of
eight inehos or more and severed one
or .two large arteries. Immediately
after the accident the ambulance of
Ramseur-McAtee company was sum
moned nad made the trip to Mr. Coth
rans' home and .to the City -Hospital in
25 minutes. At the City Hospital ev
erything possible was done to save the
unfortunate mans life but all efforts
were of no avail. His death was at
tributed to loss of blood.
'Mr. Cothran w'n well'known in the
community in which he .ived. He
Is survived by. his wife and by threu
step-children. He was a member of
Brandon Lodge, No. 23, Woodmaen of
the World..
He will .be burled today at Uolly
wood church cemetery, eight miles
from the city on the Augusta road,
with Woodmen honors. Funeral ser
vices .will be held at Hollywood
church at 3 o'clock and will be
conducted by the Rev. J. N. Wrenn.

Mrs. Laurens Glenn Davis, the be
loved wife of 1W. Watts Davis of Rock
Bridge section, died at the Clinton
hospital after two weeks illness. She
was forty-seven-years of age and
since early childhood has been a sin
cereiChristian and consistent member
of the Presbyterian church.
Few women have lived to be so

her. A devoted daughter, wife and
mother, a kind neighbor, all speali
her -praises and shed tears of sincert
sorrow at her passing away from oui
lives.
Always kind and cheerful, no un
kindness -was in her nature, and shi
made her home an Ideal one for hei
large family circle. It seems a strang
dispensation of Providence that i
should be .broken and she taken in hei
prime, .but "the Lord had need of hei
and called her to coie up higher."
We must trust in the wisdon i an
