Martin, the well .known eontractor, swill be glad to know that he is improving after a se rious attack of influenza. Miss Anna Wlallace, of the Shiloh section, has gone to Lexington county to fill out an unexpired school term in that county. Mrs. John M. Teague and her guest, Miss Mildred .Hutchinson, of- Augusta, spent the week-end in Anderson 'with Mrs. W. C. King. Mr. Wiarren Templeton, of Mt. Car mel, is 'spending a few days with -his n' other, Mrs. Allie Templeton,. at the Gilkerson House.' Mrs. Tillman IPalmer and Miss 'Es telle 'Palmer, of -McCormick, were the guests of 'Mrs. Allie Templeton Sun day. Mrs. Harvey Belle Gray, who has been visiting relatives in the city, left Tuesday for Fountain Inn, to remain some time. Mr. Alsey Miller has returned to his duties at the Laurens Drug Company after being confined to his home for several days on account of sickness. Rev. C. T. Squires has returned to the city after conducting revival ser vices in Greensboro, N. C., for several weeks and will fill his accustomed ap pointments next Sunday. William Gray, accompanied by his cousin, Clarence Gray, of Rutherford ton, N. C., both of iwhom are attending Wofford College, spent Sunday In the city with Mr. and 'Mrs. 1W. L. Gray. 'Mr. George Adams, of Edgefield, and 1 Miss Mildred Hutchinson, who is visit ing Mrs. John a' Teague, accompanied by Mirs. Teague, motored to Greenville Thursday. 'Misses ' Margaret Sandifer, Mabel Chapman, Catherine Van Wyck and Laura Agnew and Mr. Rhea, of Green ville, pent the week-end with Miss Emma Cooper at the home of Mr. and Mrs.' T. 'D. Downey. Mr. 0. 13. Simmons left Tuesday for Crystal Sprinigs, Florida. He will 'be joined there by huis brother, Mr. C. P. Simmons, of Greenville, and the two wmill continue to Miami to remain about 'a month. Mr. C. WV. McCravy was taken ,ill while in the city Monday morning and had to be carried to h-is home .by friends. Although he was resting very well yesterday, he was still a very sick man. Mrs. W. H[. Fowler and her dlaugh ter', Mi's. IL. C. Barksdale have both b~een very sick at thei' home on South Harper street for the past woeek, but their friends wvill be glad to know that they are recovering. Mr. King came up with them last week and after remaining for several days continuted to Atlanta on a business trip). Mrs. Gee. P. .Jenkins and children are spending some time at Clover, York county, in attendance upon Mrs. Jenkins' sister, who has been critical ly til for several weeks. W.. Wasoq Mib. Supt. * '4 " ! S . ! The Woman's issionary Society ot 'Gray Court Methodist church met at Mrs. Alvin Curry's ,residence on Fri day,. the 4th of March. The beautiful floral .decorations told of the coming spring and were a joy to see. A splen did progi'atn' was carried out by our Social Superintendent, Mrs. 'Riobert Gray. The discussion was on "Ten ancy in the Rural Community." The thought brought out was that -both the tenant and the land-holder should work :together to improve the place. The tenant should be eicouraged to own the land he lives on. A At the 'business meeting it was re Iported that a second box had been sent to the Poles. It was decided that we taken an Armenian orphan for one year. That is, give $60.00 to save an orphan's lif4. t3ooks were given out for the spring mission study. The study is "The Bible and' Missions," by Mr. Mont gomery. ' A report of the special prayer service of Feb. 18th was good. At this service, Rev. Squires, of the Presbyterian church, Rev. Hopkins of the Baptist church and Rev. Watson, of 'thei Methodist church spoke. Rev. J. W. Watts and airs. Watts also added much interest to this eplendid union prayer service. These two young people, having consecrated their lives to God, iplead earnestly for others to do the same. " * MT. OLIVE NEWS Mt. Olive, March 7.-,Public road working sttilj goes on in this part of the county. A force of hands under -the supervision of Mr. John H. Cul. bertson was' 'engaged all last week on the -road leading from here to Ware Shoals. Most of this line now is in faily good condition. We notice other roads outside this immediate communi ty have been gone over also iwith drags, plpughs, hoes, etc.,. making much improvement. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Cooper and Mr. M. W. Hill were right sick last ,ween and are still but little improved. They are affected with something like grippe which may be a recurrence of flu but it is to be hoped it is only severe colds. Mr. Travis Baldwin is seriously sick of typhoid fever, M(r. Baldwin is a splendid young boy just entering young manhood and has the sympathy and the prayers of all who know him, for his recovery. Mrs. Johnnie Knight is at Anderson with 'her daughter, Mrs. Reaves, who was hurt in a recent automobile wreck. Mr. Ed Teague, daughter and thc boys, spent last 'rweek end with rdla tives near Waterloo. The baseball season is 'opening um: here rather early this year. The Mt. Olive end Mt. Gallagher teams have already crossed bats in a test of ath lctic skill, the last two Saturdays. Both games resulted to the credit of Mt. Olive, who did much batting and inore running. The ladies of our missionary society, together 'with several others, observed the "Wieek of Prayer" last week and we had a good meeting every day. The meetings were held at different .homes of the. community and we feel like they did a great deal of good. If these prayer services were held in this way more often- they would be such a help to us all. The many friends of Mr. Barnie 'Blackwell will be sorry to' learn that he has decided +o quit farming and gone west to look for a better Job. - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fowler spent a while Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Jennie Hamilton. Mrs. A. 'R. Thome spent last Wed nesday with Mrs. Luranie McDaniel. Mr, and Mrs. Carl Cul'bertson visited Mr. T. H. Burts and family last week. 'Mrs. W. W. Culbertson and daugh ter, Miss Lidie, spent Monday with Misses -Edna and Kittura Cooper Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Culbertson and two fine boys visited the latter's broth er, Mr. Albert Martin, of the Poplar section, Saturday night and Sunday, Misses Elsie and Mittie Burton spent Saturday night with Misses Lonic and Grace Cooper. Mrs. Luranie McDaniel spent Sun day with Mrs. Lou Culbertson and daughter. Mr. Clarence Burton was a visitor in our community Sunday night. Dr. Cooper is able to be out again after several days' sickness, we are glad to report. Mr. and Mrs. William Baldwin and little Lois were called to the home of the former's brother, Mr. Lawrence Baldwin, of the Mt. Olive section, Sun-. day, on account of the serious illn'iis of one of his boys, who was typhoid fever. 'Mr, Barley Brissey, of Mt. Galla gher section, spent Sunday night with his brother, Mr. T. J. Mr. Louio Bomar, of Spartanburg, spent the day with 'his mother, Mrs. Stella Romar, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Don Burns, of Barks dale, visited Mrs. O. F. Fowler last Sunday. Mrs. Fowler was very sick, but is some better at this writing. Miss Bernice 'Prince visited Mr. and Mrs, T. M. Burnett last Sunday. She taught school at Centr~al several years ago and Is teaching near Augusta now. Her friends were all glad to see her. Misses Vivian and Nellie Burnett visited Miss Lucile 11arlem last Sun day. Mrs. W. E. Chapman, Miss Nora Simpson and Mr. and 'Mrs. Ilinson, of Fountain Inn, caime to the play Frii day night, Miss Pearl Chapman re -turning home with them. Mtiss 'Nina -laris spent the week end with her brother in Spartanhurg. Mrs. M. 'W. Fowler has 'been sick the past week, and not able to teach school. .\Miss Carrie Fowler, her dlaug'hter, has taught in her place. We - are gladl tha t she is better and able to resume her work.
