Glasgow, Glasgow, Va., forty iless
north of here, at 2 o'clock this morn
ing was robbed by three bandits of
$140,000 In Liberty bonds and curren
cy. accorlding to an estimate of Presi
dent Vaughn of the bank, and three
hours 1-ater, Roanoke police having re
ceived the alarm, blocked the three
roads leading into this city from the
north, haited the robbers who wore
speeding in a seven passenger autono
bile on one of the thoroughfares, killed
one of them, took the other two pris
one's in a pitched battle and recover'ed
the loot. In the battle Patrohlan 0.
1,. llendrix of Roanoke, was slightly
wounded. The men undeir ariest gave
their names as: Charles Carter, 10,
Cincinnati, Ohio; and William Porter,
-i, Of IWashingt.on, D. C.
Chief of Police ligney enpressed the
belief tonight that the trio is responi
ible for robberiles recently in North
Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Ten
liessee.
At the local morgue tonght $200 was
found sclved ill Rodgers' Coat and
$250 in the lning of his underwear.
Most of the loot, whilc included small

bonds and curreney, was found in a
