Ind4l. ildual Nursing Not Practicable. There seoms to have been sonic misunder.tanding about the duties of the county nurse now employed by the Red 'Cross chapter of Laurens county. Naturally for so large a field her duties are mostly educational and preventative. A few of the duties as laid down by the ilureau of Child Ily giene of South Carolina, under iwhich, with the co-operation of the Red Cross, the nurse works, are the fol lowing: Mledical inspection of school chil dren and when possible inspection of Children of the pre-school age and the follow-up work of getting the necessary corrections made. Control of tuberculosis and other 4 communicable diseases. ilatabl ishment of a hea-lth center whlere'-'nYthers imay go for'advice con eerning themsel-ves and their children. Supeirvision of bottle fed babies that is, teaching the mothers by dei onstration and advice how these ba bles should be fed. [Improvement of .birth-registration. Control of midWives and through them birt h-registration can be 11.4 proved. Encouraging the use of,, iops in new-bornii baby's eyes. 'Pre-natal care of chilren-thtat is, encou raging mothers to place them selves uinder' an intelligent physician befor'e the birth of their children. Cr1ippled and lame children also claim a part of the- nurse's time as nyvell as insanitary conditions in the county which come uinder' no diriect laws or supervision. .With these dlutles laid (down, and( they do not entirely cover' the work of thie nurse, it enn r'eadily heC seen that staying e~en one dlay with a sin gle patient, whien thtere are so many families who have an eqjual claim, would make the educatitonal wor'k of the nurse'5 imipossiblei .
