The Baptist 'women of the South have
agreed to raise one-liftih of the entire
sum, or $15,000,000. The men and
women who camo together In Colum
bia exhibited an intelligent grasp up
on the greatness, the worthiness, and
the necessity of the underlaking, and
these uilialities were matchd by a burn
ing enthusiasm to put the job over at
whatsoever cost and in a truly great
and worthy manner.
The headquarters of the campaign
in South Carolina are located at
Greenville, with Urs. W. T. Derleux
and 'Chias. A. Jones, General Directors,

New York, July 25.-'-The Standard
Oil Company of New Jersey today an
nounced a proposed increase in its
Capital stock by $100,000,000, whvileh
virtually doubles the present capital
ization. Tihe new stock. will be at 7
per cent preferred, but non-voting,
,and twill be offered to present sharc
holders at par.
Tho 'purpose of the sissue, which is
:subjcct to approval by the share
holders, is to provide for the "vigor
ous prosceution of the departinent
campaign wilii tho company planned
during the war and launched imme
diately the armistice was declared.
The new linancing will -be under
written by J. ;P. Morgan and Com
pany, and will constlitute the first
public offering ever made by any
Standard Oil Company.
In that respect as well as other
unusual features the project marks a
radical departure in the general 11
nancial policy of the world's largest
oil lprodIcers and refiners.
The new stock, which wil take the
form of a 7 per cent preferred cumu
lative non-voting certilie, will be list
ed on the stock exchange. This will
