* A Hospital at Greenwood for *
* the Colored People. *
**************** *
The hospital situation in Greenwood
county long hias been one of great con
ceru. The siturtion is still a serious
on-, but it hat' suddenly bec (me bright
with big opportunity.
The only hospital In all this sec
tion, is the Greenwood hospital, and
through the kindness of its associa
tion, it has d.one its best to meet the
situation. For cases of sudden sick
ness, operations and accidents, two
rooms have been available--rooms to
be used lin connection with X-ray
work.
Notwitistanding the fact that X-ray
work has been insistently needed, the
hospital association has not been will
Ing that its colored patients should be
left without ties facilities, and so has
delayed the conversion of its rooms
into an X-ray station.
No relief was in sight until the feel
ilg of the colored people that they
urgently needed a hospital of their
owni. andi this situation at the Green
Wood hospital became known to the
American .\lissionary Association of
New" York. This association, support

The hospital owned and adminis
tered by the American 'Missionary As
sociation of New - York, 'will assure
wise and careful management by an
established institution, and will put
the enterprise upon a permanent basis.
Thus, at the start, the possiblities of
mismanagement and carelessness are
cliiinated as far as that is humanly
possible. With such an association
behind it, the high iuality of its ser
vice will bie assured, and tho'spirit of
wlich it mninisters to tile c6muniuuiity
will be the best, for the hospital has
been born in the Christian spirit of
unselfishness. anti its life will be one
of contintious, sacrificial service.
The single aim of the American Mis

to help where most needed. No ser
