-During this month we are having
health programs in all our 'Women's
Clubs. Dr. L. A. Riser, director of
rural health work, and Miss Chauncey
Blackburn, of anti-Tuberculosis Asso
elation, have spoken att several of our
eltibs.
Prevention is the most important
factor in the matter of good health,
and there was never a more co-opera
tive proposition. No individual nor
family can work it out. alone. As indi
viduals we must say to ourselves:
"I must. keep well not only for my
self but because of those -with whom
I come in contact. I should not only
cultivate habits of personal hygiene,
but of family hygiene and community
hygiene as well. I must learn to do
nothing that will htell) spread disease.
And I must take my share of responsi
bility regarding the conditions in the
rommunity where I live. recognize the
problems and stand back of all move
mtents leading to betteir sanitation and
11101 liealtifiul condition."
'oor sewerage and the insanitary
toilet open to the typhoid fly is thi
greatest menace to health in any com
munity. The proper disposal of sew
eirage is the greatest need of everyv
home. Typhoid fever, dysentery, sum
mier complaint, tuberculonis, and other
intestinal diseases may be spread 'by
the fly from the disease germs found
in human excrement. Tile fly is the
lilthiest of all insect.;. It is born in
Filth, lives in filth, carries filth and
dleposits it upon your food. It drowns
the disease germs in your baby's milk.
;et rid of the ly now by screening
porcles and windows,. by destroying
the breeding places and keeping the
back yards clean. Hlave your toilet
screened, or better still put in a 'sani
tary closet with septic tank. In regard
to these tanks for (ither school or
h1ome1. write Dr. L. A. iiser, director of
rural health work, Columbia.
lHoth Dr. Aiser and Miss Blackburn
arc anxious that Laurens county shall
have a rural leailth director and coun
ty nurse another year in order that we
iay h~lve sclool illspection and other
san itary mea in su res carried out in the
'oun11y.
Miss il ack biirn is especially inter
