Clerk of Court C. A. Power, who has been sick of influenza since last week Is reported to 41D improving. Mr1. and Mrs. C. Emory Davis, of Gar nett, S. C., are spending a few days with her parents, 'Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moore. 'Mrs. 0. 'B. Moffett and Mirs. Glass have returned to Akron, Ohio, after spending the week with Mrs. L. L. Moore. Mr. B. 11. Balle, of Philadelphia, spent several days in the city last week with his mother, -Mrs. L. G. Balle. Mr. W. M. Suierel, who has been quite sick of influenza athis home in -the Tylersville section, Is much im proved. The members of Mr. D. E. Todd's family on East Main street, who have beenf down with influenza, are reported -.to be improving. Mr. C. W. Taylor, of Greenwood, has been spending several days in the city on account of the sickness of his daiightier, Hebecca. Mrs. iRaymond Campi of Atlanta, has returned to her home after visiting rot, several dlays in the home of her uncle. Mlr. -1. S. Bennett. M]r. C. 1". Illix, who is now superin telndent of (he water and electric plant, of Abbeville, made a two days' visit to hoiefolks last week. Pvt. Frank T,. McMahon, of the Ma rine 'Corps, has returned to Juanilco, Va., after spending the week with his aunt, Mrs. W. A. 'Moore, and relatives in Taurens county. Miss Mary Jlohnson, of Spartanhurg, came down last week to be Present at the funeral of Mi. A. IT. Sanders. She has ,remained several days while Mrs. Fianders is recovering from her illness. Miss Frances Thames left Sunday for Washington where she will visit her sister, 'Mrs. Perry, and take a spe clal course in kindergarten work dir ing the next few weeks. Capt. .1. B. Humbert, of Princeton, was a visitor in the city Thursday. He is apparently enjoying good health, the trip from his home to town being a pleasant olting for him. Miss Carrie Lee Havird, of Newberry, is visiting Mrs. J. M. Teague, on South Harper street, having come tip on ac count of the sickness of Miss Minnie Ifavird, who has been visiting friends here for several weeks. 'Mr. W. L. Taylor, mail carrier on Rioute -1 and associate editor of The iierald. is among those suffering 1w ith Intienza. 110 and several members of his raily have been confined to their beds for the past few days. Mr. R. P. Traynliai leaves this morning foi' different points In Florida where he will remain for the next month or two. 1ie will be accompanied by Shieriff S1 C. I Mr. W. 'Carl Wharton, of Waterloo, who has -been quite sick of influenza, is well enough to -be out again. Sainimie Austin, who is now liv ing in iandrum, has been spending several days in the city during the Il ness of his sister, Airs. J. 1-. Nabors. John Boyd and Arthur Jones, of Greenville, accompanied by Mr. Henry Bennett wil convposo -a house party at the home of Miss Flora Bennett the latter part of the week. County Treasurer Ross D. Young was at his office again for a few hours Monday after having been sick of influ enza for several weeks. During his absence many details of his work have been effleently handled by his daugh ter, Miss Dorris Young. Wattsx-Stokes. Miss Courtney Watts, daughter of Associate Justice R. C. Watts, and Mr. T. F. F. Stokes, of Mountville, were married at the home of Judge Watts Monday afternoon. Rev. Wilmot S. Holmes, rector of the 10piscopal church, performed the ceremony. Only the members of the immediate families of the young people were present. The bride has spent a large part of her life in Laurens and is greatly admired for her gracIous and charming man ners. Didn't it make you all realize that this was a beautiful world nfter all? We are all glad to greet our first returned soldier boy from oversea ser vice, 'Claude J. Brown. He received his ionoable discharge from Camp 'Sevier last week and is now with his parents, ,Ar. and 'Mrs. Geo. Brown. Claude was wounded at the battle of Ypres, where there were numbers of Americans with the 4th British a-rmy. He is looking the .pink of perfection and has many interesting incidents to relate. Mr. and Mrs. George Bryson and lit tle Eloise, Mr. and 'Mrs. J. A. Wofford, Mr. G. H-. Finley und irs. Andy Boyd and daughter Azile, 'were visitors at the home of Mr. Geo. Brown Sunday af ternoon. George, Jr., was thought to be a little better. The family of -Mr. J1. D. Culbertson are all down with flu, but are better at this writing. 'Mr. Thad 4loore and little son, Orrah, have also been quite sick. The family of Air. De~olitelds have al so been down, but they too are report ed better. Ills oldest brother, Will A. Wofford, was killed by a train. Ilr. Wofford had often visited his brother here and had many friends who w'er shocked and saddened to hear of his tragic death. lie left a wife, iwho was a Miss Johnson, of Laurens county and seven children to mourn hils death. One of lie saddest features of the ease is his youngest and only single son, Jared J., is in France. We are sorry to hear that Uncle John Finley has not been so well for the past week. Rev. W. J. LTangston spent Saturday night with his brother, 'T. S. Langston. He was oi hils way to AVoodruff where lie goes to form a pastorate. Fitztlugh McMaster on Laurel Street. With her is her ten year old stepdaughter, Elizabeth. The proid young son of the new governor's fam tly, Robert A., Jr., is remaining at the home in Laurens on account of his tender -age. le is but six weeks old.
