klo before us. To each of you who
read these lines we extend the sea
011'S greetings with the earnest hope
that we may all be more useful this
year than we were in years agone.
Those that were to move have done
so and we hope soon. to greet the new
neighbors that have cast their lots

Our girls, Misses Myra Wofford, Mi
riam Brown and Estelle Martin left

Mrs. Oiega Timmerman and clil
dren, of Charleston, are spendilng
awhile with her mother, 'Mrs. Cora
Madden. Nona is attending Prospect
school while here.
Mr. Thad Moore had the misfortune
to lose a valuable cow last week.
The W. M. U. of Prospect met to ob
serve tie week of prayer, at the homo
of the efficient treasurer, Miss [fettle
CuInningham.
'We are glad to chronicle the fact
that Mlr. Yates Brown was able to be
at Prospect Sunday afternoon, where
he 'was cordially greeted by old friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Langston were
visitors at Fountain Inn Friday.

slek. We trust that all may soon be

ter is that shown at the time the reg
iment was withdrawn on October 20.
After the opeiing fight on October
8, the regiment proceeded forward on
October 9, making headway, though
somewhat retarted as a result of the
slow progress of the English on thei,
right. -Their objectives were reached
with the capture of 200 prisoners and
five square miles of territory.
During 'the operations of October 11
great resistance was encountered and
it was evident that tl.e eneiny in
tended to hold his line at. all costs.
Prisoners reported that the hills nVere
full of machine gun nests and at the
time their regiment was not prepared
with proper artillery support for the
combat, as it was a case of rifles
agaist machine rulns. Ilowever, two
square miles ot territory were gained
and the regiment was relieved for

rest and reorganization Until the night
of October 15.
On ithr morning of October 17 the
reglme-nt attacked again on a thous
and yar id froit and in the dense fog
of that morningi a part of the Third
Pattalion lost Its direction, straye(i
too fa to the right, and got into the
town of Molain, which they captured
from the enemy and later turned over
to the British. The Second Dattalion
came u1) meanwhile and assisted the
Third in taking the town of,St. lar
tin ltivere, and the latter proceeded
to within 500 yards of Its object, but
was forced to fall back by the unusu
ally heavy machine gun fire. Prog
ress was made to the objectives ind
the report indIcates that in the oper
ations from October 5 to October 20
the Thirtieth Division penetrated to a
depth' of Over 18,000 yards, 15,000 yards
of which was mado while the One
Ilundred and E'lghteenth Infantry was

The First Battalion lost 12 oficers
and 179 men; the Second BattalIon, 12
officers and 624 men; the Third Battal
ion, 16 officers and 514 men; I-lead
quarters Company, 10 ofilcers and 232
men; Machine Gun Company, four of
