Neighborhood. The Home Service department of the Red Cross has never been busier -than ti at present and expects to remain 5s for some time to come. In order to in- U press the need of Home Service upon' .our people the Red Cross has issued this statement, which is at the same t time an appeal -to all who are truly a- e triotic. We reprint it from the At lanta Constitution: Our soldiers, freed from the pros- r pect of service overseas, are st~ll to spend 'weary months in camp. ii the depressing waiting they will lose heart more easily than before when things go wrong at hdme. Red Crohs Home Service to their families must continue -we are pledged it shall-ab long as families are deprived of the support of the soldiers' presence. , Our task is peculiarly heavy ber cause of the large rural districts our chapters cover. The worried soldier with a letter telling of sickness or trouble at home must often twait days until a Home Service worker can make a visit to a distant place, and (write back that medical or other relief has been given. Bad weather conditions will soon make almost impassable roads in many places. We want to make plain to all people the opportunity Red Cross provides for kind neighborly interets in sol diers' families; how every patriotic person can be a link in the chair of service we give our enlisted men. A distress call may come to your Home Service worker at any time in refer ence to a soldier's family who live near you. You can become an active instead of an admiring member of this department of Red Cross. Telephone or write your Red Cross chapter that you are willing to visit a soldier's family at once if need arises in your immediate neighborhood. If your chap ter has no Home Service find out why not, and get together to help you push the inquiry until your community takes its proper part in the pledge that the soldier's family shall not suffer during his absence. Inform yourself too as to what benefits Home Service can help secure the returning, espec tally the wounded roldier. The army depends cni Home Service to instruct returning men about keeping up in surance, compensation, re-education and fitting back into industry. The 'Laurens Home Service depart ment has its offices in the Chamber of Commerce -.oms, over the Laurens National Bank, where Miss Sadie Sulli van, the Honi. Service Secretary will give every attertirn to the needs of the soldiers or th'ir families. Home Service Institute to be Held In Atlanta. Mr. Joseph C. Logan, Director of Ci vilian Relief, Southern Division American Red Cross, announces the opening of a lome Service Institute in Atlanta on January 13th, 1919. The course covers six weeks of lecture and field work. This is the ninth of these training classes conducted by the Southern D)i vision for young nyomen who wish to qualify for segretarial positions with tthe Home Service of the Red Cross. Armistice conditions have quicken ed rather than lessened interest in eHome Service work, and the flood of *inqiuiries from retur'ning soldiers who seek aid in legal, health, and finan cial problems upon their return to 'the local Home Service sections, has awakened Red Cross wvorkers every where to the need for trained wvork. ers.
