London, Dec. 27.-No more regal
setting, ever had been arranged in
Buckingham Palace than that awhich
greeted President and Mrs. Wilson
when 'they were escorted Into the
banquet halli tonight for the precedent
breaking 'State dinner.
Every royal formality which had
attenhed epochael occasions at the
palace for two and three hundred
years was carried out befo're and dur
ing the banquet. President Wilson
with Queen -lary led the procession
into the dining hall, preeded by of
ficials of the palace splendidly cos
tumed, bearing wands and walking
backwards and making obeisance to
the guests.
Immediately behind the 'President
and the Queen, King George and Mrs.
Wilson. They were followed by men
bers of the royal family.

The main tableftwas ar'tatiged so
that the back of President Wilson
and King George were toward the
throne, which Is at, one end af the
hall.
The plarinanent decorations seemed
strikingly simple when compared with
the regal table. On each side cut
glass chandeliers hung from the ex
tremely high ceiling but for the ban
quet tonight 128 candies in gold can
delabra, each surmounted by a pink
silk shade, were used.
The general .body of the guests pre
ceded the royal family and the pres
idential and ambassadorial guests in
to the banquet hall. They rose and
remained standing while the main
guests and the hosts entered In pro
cession. leading the procession was
the Lord Chamberlain and the Lord
Steward and other ofilcials in State
regalia. Yeomen of the guard In red
E'lizabethan costumes and .with hal
berds ,were in attendance.
