The contract between the City of
Laurens and Reedy River Power.Com
pany will expire on' the 8th of Janu
ary. The City and Power. Co. have
disciussed making a new contract and
the editor of this paper has been kind
enough to offer us his columns for any
statement we might desire to make:
and for this we thank him. It Is a
long story and somewhat technical,
but I will be as brief as possible.
Let's everyone get posted and un
derstand the facts and there will re
main no ground for criticism. The
great trouble is that the public does
not got possession of all the facts.
For example, it is stated Iin the paper

$4.00 to $5.00 -er month; the Cleve
land Hote'l uses the current at this
figure, hence, it would seem to me
that this is a fair price.
If the Power Co. makes a contract
with the City, its future prosperity
would depend very much upon the at
titude of the City officials. We did not
ask the town to inbrease its rate for
light, and do not think it should do so,
notwithstanding the present rate is
much under the average in the coun
try at -large, .but we wanted the town
to use more current and accommodate
more people. A graduated schedule
might be more encouraging and satis
factory. Greenwood collects over $500
per month from cooking alone. Green
Wood has a cheap contract with a pow
er Co. however, for the reason that it
was m1iade some twelve years ago.
Now as to the trice per K. W. hour.
