AN ORDINANCE. State of South Carolina, County of Laurens, .ty of Laures. An ordinance to levy an annual tax upon the taxe.ble property within the corporate limits of the City of Lau rens, to raise supplies to defray bond ed indebtedness of the said City of laurens for the fiscal year, commenc ing January 1st, 1919, and to pay past indebtedness of said city, and also to levy and collect a suflicient amount to pay the Interest upon the bonded indebtedness of the said city for the year 1919, and to raise a sinking fund for the payment of same. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Laurens: 'Sec. 1. Theft 4I l1oensbs tissued under and by virtue of this Ordinance shall be non-transferable and, ex cept a license for a day, a tweek or a month, shall terminate and end on the 31st day of December of the year in which they were Issued; but may be revoked at any time by the City Council of the City of Laurens on satisfactory cause being shown. Ex cept license issued for a day, a week or a month, annual rates shall be charged for all licenses issued prior to June 30th of any year, three fourths the annual rate shall be charged for all licenses issued af ter June 30th of any year and prior to September 30th of any year; and one-half the annual rates for all li censes issued after September 30th of any year, and prior -to December 31st of any year. Sec. 1. Any person, firm, company or corporation prosecuting or engag ing in any business, occupation or profession, or keeping or mnai ntaining any establishment nmed in this Or dinance without having first paid the license tax Imposed thereon, shall, up on conviction, he flned not exceeding one huudred dollars, or be impris oned not exceediug thirty days with or without hard labor at the diScre tion of the omieer trying thec . That every person, firm, company or corporation, reqtuired by this Ordinance to obtain a license to engage in business, tirade, profession or occupation for which a license is required, shall at the time of apply ing for such license make a statement under oath, before an offcer qualified to administer oaths, and file said state ment twith the 'City Clerk, setting forth: (1) llis or her name, style or firm, name of company, or corporation; (2) The trade, business, profes sion, or occupation for which a li cense is required; (3) The amount of business pro posed to be done during the current year, and in those cases in which such information is required, the amount of business done the previous year in the same occupation, trade. busi ness or profession if same was car ried on in the City of Laurens the previous yuar. The City Clerk shall thereupon as sess and collect the proper license tax as provided for in this Ordinance, and upon such tax being paid, shall issue to the applicant the proper license. Sec. 7. For any business, trade, oc cupation or profession not enumerat ed in 'Section 1 of this Ordinance, the license shall lie fixed by the City Council of the City of Laurens at any regular or special meeting thereof. Sec. 8. The license taxes herein imp~osedl are levied for the purpose of raising funds to meet the annual or (dinary expenses of the City of Law rens for the fiscal year commnencing on the 1st clay of January of any year hereafter, and for the purpose of pay ing in whole or In part any legal in debtedness of the said 'City incurred for ordinary expenses thereof falling due during the said fiscal year.
