Mr. J. 11. Campbell, of this city,
hts received the letter below from
Congressman Whaley, of Charleston,
in reference to his son, Walker Camp
bell, who was wou;nded in one of the
late engagements of the war and was
under treatment in a London hospital.
'Private 'lien Campbell, whose death
from pneumonia was reported by the
government several weeks ago, has
since been reported as alive and re
uperating from the effects of gas. The

Stuffed Dates.
Remove the' stones from dates. Fil
with peanuts, walnuts, hickory nuts,
or any available nut. -Peanut butter
maakes a good filling. Press dates in
shape and roll in chopped nuts, co
coanut and powdered cinnamon.
Pop.-Corn Bails.
1 cup of syrup, I tablespoon vine
gar, 2 to three quarts of popped corn.
Boil together the yrup and vinegar
mintil syrup hardens when dropped in
to cold water. 'Pour over freshly
popped corn and mold into balls.

2 tablespoons of buter, 1-2 cup of
milk, 1-2 cup of sugar, 1 cup of mo
