Mrs. Ursula Wallace has been called
to the bedside of her son, Mr. J. Y.
Wallace, in Greenville, who is sick
with the flu.
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Lancaster, who
have been at the hospital for several
days, are stoadily j-ecovering from
their sickness.
'Mrs. Hoyt Camp has returned to
Hartsville after spending some time
here with her parents, M1r. and Mrs.
John N. Hudgens.
Mrs. Sallie D. Young has gone to
Rock 11111 to visit her daughter, Miss
Elizabeth Young, who has influenza
at Winthrop College.
Mr. iEarl Caine, who has been in the
quartormaster corps at Camp Sevier,
has been given his honorable discharge
and is at home again.

service, has been spending several

Christmas Roll Call for the Laurens

Friday to attend an imlortant con
forence held to make plans for the
great, "drive" for membership which
the Red Cross will make between the
15th and 23rd of December. A'r.
Switzer is full of enthusiasm and ex
ipects to succeed in putting every per
son In the county on the led Cross
Roll. The Red Cross is emphasizing
the fact, and wishes everyone to under
stand, that this "drive", which is to be
the big .Red Cross event of the year,
Is not a drive for funds, but "an op
l)ortunlty for every person to become
affiliated with the Red Cross and thus
to have 'a part ia the gigantic task of
reconstruction, which confronts the
Red Cross over seas, and also to lend
a helping hand in continuing the work
of the Red Cross for the soldiers and
sailors in this country and overseas."

How They Will Spend Thanksgiving.
Paris, Nov. 20.-Wonnded American
soldiers will be the guests of the
American Red Cross Thanksgiving af
ternoon in one of the largest theatres
in the city. American Red Cross has
bought the entire house for the mati
nee performance and esl)ecial musical
numbers that will appeal to the boys
from the United States will be inter
l)olated in the regular revue. Before
going to the theatre the soldiers will
partake of an old fashioned American
Thanksgiving dinner.

DIED AT C.MP WADSWORTH.
1t. Ellerbe McDanie- Died at Camp
Wadsworth Wednesday Morning and
was Burled at, Mt. Pleasant Church
Friday.
Ryan Ellerbe McDaniel, son of Mr.
and 'Mrs. M. E. MlcDaniel, Sr., of the
XEkom section, died at the base lio
pital at Camp Wadsworth last Wed
nesday of pneumonia following influ
enza. The body was brought home and
laid to rest at Mount Pleasant church
Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
The deceased was'about 24 years of
age and was inducted into the military
service with the last contingent of
men sent by the local board to Camp
Wadsworth, on November 5th. lie was
ill for about a week or ten days. Ills
brother, Clarence, went up to be at his
bedside Tuesday, and remained to the
end. le was a very poular young man
of his community and liked by all who
knew him. Besides his parents he is
survived by three sisters and four
brothers, as follows: 'Mrs. W. M. My
ers, Misses Nona and Vivian McIDaniel,
Clarence, Clyde, Cecil and Ernest Mc
Daniel. Clyde McDaniel was in the
service at Camp Jackson at the time
of his brother's death.

nam of Greenville, and Mr. Alexander
Kell Brunson, of Sumter.
Miss Putnam was born in Laurens
county, but later went to Greenville to
enter school, making her home there
after finishing Chicora College. For
the past several months she has been
in training at Tuomey Hospital, Suni
ter.
Mr. Brunson is a rising young busi
ness man of Sumter, being connected
with the Cherry Company in the furni
tire business.
