Shiloh, Oct. 21.-Wo have been vis
ited in Shiloh district by Mr. Machen,
gelting the Fourth Liberty Loan up
this week. It seems to be slow and
looks like the treasury department
is waking the people up. They are
beginning to sympathize with the -boys
across the sea and in the trenches.
I have ieceived a letter from the
Liberty Loan committee asking me to
go out on the farm and look the peo
pile up. With the help of .\rs. G. D.
Armstrong, we raised $3.250, visiting
several places between fihe two Rabuni
ereeks, and haven't founti but one
Slahcker, who says that the war is
over.

* CROSS HILL NEWS. *
Cross 11111, Oct. 21.-All cases of in
fluenza in town seem much better but
it is still spreading some In the sur
rounding country. Dr. Senn, one of
the firts to take the disease, is now
well and ready for work again. Bar
rett Watts, Erskine Carter, and a few
other slight cases are all recovered
and all others are improving. Among
the colored population there are sev
oral cases but none very serious. It
is hoped now that the epidemic will
soon spend itself and everything will
return to normal condition.

last week( I lard, st rom piml was
made for the Fourth Liberty bond.
The task seemed almost imposible of
accomplishment, but the people were
willing and most of them ready. The
bigge'st thing yet done here in the way
of financial aid to the war was put
through Saturday when Liberty Loan
subscriptions reached more than sixty
one thousand. Every one who is able,
and even some who are not, both white
and black, responded to the call, thuo
becoming happier for having done so.
As soon as a short breathing spell
gives us a little fresh strength we are
ready for the next.
