The stalte execttive coimitt did
right yesterday in ignoring the clamor
from scattered localities for re-open
Jig the lists of the senatorial race to
allow the entrance of other candi
dates into the race. The rules of the
party, wlhile so worded as to allow for
the re-opening of the lists if the Oc
casion justified it. but by no ieasure
of means did tile occasioli justify it.
The entrant.; it the race already in
cluded two men at least who were
represen ta tive of tie factions repre
sented in tlie pIarty and there was no
need to seek otler candidates through
which an expression of the people
could he voiced.

Mr. Dial is ilready in the race and
loyal timber at tiat. U7nfortnat ely
for Mr. Dial lie has not passed the
few years of his life running u1p and

criticising olIonents so as to attain

ness affairs which have resulted in
large aceretions of wealth to the state

commisioner upon the comiplaint of
Attorney General ljowis, who had
been condueting an investigation for

The attorney general charged that

1915, from fHenry L. Stoddard, and
that in doing so he acted on behalf
of the imperial German government.
In an announcement tonight of the
arre.t of Dr. Rumely, Attorney G(en
eral Lewis declared that the money
vas iaid to Ruiely from deposits of
the German government standing In
the name of Dr. Albert, or of Albert
anld von Bernstorff, jointly, in this
city. The total so far traced, he add
ed, is $1,261,000.
