First Cotton Bloom.
J. H. Walker, who lives on Route
3, brought in the first cotton bloom
this year. His was brought in person
on Friday and was )icked the day be
fore. The next bloom was received
by mall from W. G. Hollingsworth, of
Cross 11111, who picked his also Thurs
day morning. Both of these blooms
had already turned pink. L. .1. Hitt, of
Cross Hill, reported the third Satur

The marriage of .\Miss Kathleen
Elizabeth Wilkes to Sergt. W. Joel
Smith, of Camp Sevier, was solemn
ized at the home of the bride's P'ar
ents, Mr. andI Mrs. l0. 11. Wilkes, at 6
o'clock Saturday afternoon in the
presence of near relatives and a few
close friends. -Rev. C. T. Squires, pas
tor of the bride, performed the cere
mony.
The wedding was very beautiful In
its simplicity, the color scheme of
green and white being carried out in
all the details. The wedding room was
decorated with shasta daises and as
paragus ferns.
'Before the entrance of the bridal
party 'Mrs. H. K. Aiken sang "Until'
and ".ly Heart is Singing", accom
panied on the piano by Mrs. M. L.
Roper, who also played the wedding
march. The bride entered with her
father, Mr. E. II. Wilkes, antd was met
at the altar by the groom, who wa:
attelded by !Mr. ii. F. -nilh, of Abhe
ville. The bride wore a smart fnit
of navy blue serge, blue hat, wit h
gray ac esvorics, aild a corslag of
I'lde roses and m1iald en hair fern. Af
ter the ceremony, block cream and

ornamlent vas a pearl necklace, the
gift of the groom. The bride's bouquet
was of white sweet peas bordered

with sweet pcas. The bridesmaids

froczZo: ef pink silk with overdress of
plnk tulle and silver lace. They car
ried iandsoime bouquets of white as

The" maid of honor was unusually
beautiful in a dress of pink tulle over
green silk. The daimes of honor were
handsomely gowned in green crepe
meteor with court train.
Immediately after the ceremony the
young coude left by automobile for
Augusta and from there they will go
to Moultrievilie' where Mr. Wharton
is stationed wi(h the Coast Artillery.
