NOTICE of the COUNTY TtE.SURER The 'Books of the County Treasurer will be open for the collection of State, County and Commutation Road Taxes for fiscal year, 1917, at the Treasurer's office from October 15th to December 31st, 1917. After Decem.. ber 31st one per cent will be added. After January 31st, two per cent will be added, and after February 28th, seven per cent will be added till the 15th day of March, 1918, when the books will be closed. All persons owning property in more than one township are request ed to call for receipts in each of the several townships in which the pro perty Is located. This is important, as additional cost and genalty may be attached. All able-bodied male citizens be tween the ages of 21 and 60 years of age are liable to pay a poll tax of $1.00 except old soldiers, who are exempt at 50 years of age. U. R. Brooks, aged 71, clerk of the South Caroling Supreme Court since De cember 6, 1894, died at his residence at Shandon, a suburb of Columbia, this morning at 8:45 o'clock, after an ill ness of several months, ie was sur rounded by the members of his family, with tie exception of his eldest son, who Is sick in a local hospital . Gen. Brooks is survived by his wid ow, wh(, was .Aliss Mary E0mma Jones; three daughters, Mrs. \V. L. Bennett, of Columbia, .Mrs. S. T. Carter, of Co lumbia, and Mrs. 11111 A. Gardiner, formerly of Norfolk, Va., but. now of Worcester, Mass.; two sons, Ulysses Robert Brooks, .r., and Al. Bonhan Brooks, both of Columbia. ie is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. S. M.
