NOTICE
of, the
COUNTY TREASURER
The Books of the County Treasurer
will be open for the collection of
State, County and Commutation Road
Taxes for fiscal year, 1917,- at the
Treasurer's ofilce from October 15th
to December 31st, 1917. After Decem
ber 31st one per cent will be added.
After January 31st, two per cent will
be added, and after February 28th,
seven per cent will be added till the
15th day of March, 1918, when the
books will be closed.
All persons owning property in
more than ofte township are request
ed to call for receipts in each 'of the
' veral townships in which the pro
1 erty is located. This is important, as
additional cost and genalty may be
attached.
All able-bodied rihale citizens be
tween the ages of 21 and 60 years of
age are liable to pay a poll tax of
$1.00 except old soldiers, who are
exempt at.50 years of age. Commuta
tion 4toad Tax $1.50 in lieu of road

1den. Nov. x12.-Mr. C. A. Babb died
at his home in this community Satur
day afternoon, Nov. 3rd. He li been
in failing health for several montjs,
so his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Babb was in his 07the year of
life and had lived in this community
all Iris rlife.
He was a mat of estimable charac
ter and greatly admiral by all who
knew him. 'le was prominent in
church affairs and was an indefatig
able worker. The funeral services
were held Sunday afternoon at Rabun
Creek Baptist church, conducted by
Rev. <W. A. Baldwin.

and family Tuesday night.

Abbeville, editor and publisher of
"The Scimitar," was found guilty here
this morning on two counts of the in
dictmient on which he was being tried.
The two counts were: First, with mak
ing and conveying false reports and
statements with the intent to inter
fere with the operation and success
of the mlitary and naval forces of the
United States, and second, with an
attempt to cause mutiny and disloyal
ty.
:lie was found not gulty -oM. the
charge of attemnpting to prevent en
listiment in the forces of the United
States. Counsel for the defense at
onceC gave Notice of a motion for a
new trial.
'Judge .Johnson rnserved sentence
pending the hearing of argument on

Counsel will be heard some time next,
