New York, April 25.--Approximate ly 123,000 men have applied thus far and been found to hueet the iecessary requirements for membersilp in Col. Th'nodore Rloosevelt's proposed army divi.Ion. It was announeed here to night at enrollment headluarters which were opened some Ilimc ago with the former President's approval. Sixty per cent of the volunteers are from Virginia, North Carolina and ,South (arrolina and other southern states. Only fift yapplieants., it. was said, were under 25 years old. None below this age are now heing accepted. Of the total, 10,000 are negroes. Prof. C. B. Martin to Leave Furman. Prof. C. B. Martin, of Furmam uni versity, has been elected superintend ent of Chick Springs Military Academy to succeed Capt. W. D. Workman who resigned to enter the volunteer army. We understand that Prof. Martin has nccepte(i or has deeided to accept and that at the end of this session will sever his ofilelal relations with Pt ur nan. We say 'olIlcial relation.;' for there are relations of love and loyalty that will not he severed until death t itself severs them. Professor .llartin has been with Furman a good while and some of us had beglln to look on him as a fixture. 1le graduated from the institution in the '96's; and after that was over the old Pittling School.
