Then the thoughts leap ahead to happy little faces around the Christmas tree; to grateful, trembling hands opening the hollied love gifts of youth that are the recompense of age; to the crackling logs, the merry candles, and the bells across the snow. But a moment later the vision fades and we're back to the work-a-day, everyday world. And yet it is now of all times that we should spread our Christmas kindness, that we should let our honest wish for another's happy Christmas grow into being. We should remem ber that we must begin now to look, and to choose, and to buy the things that we are going to give later. We must not wait until the last mad week, which is a week of terror for those toilers who serve us in the shops, stores and offices. We shall make their Christmas as miserable as our own is merry if we put off our holiday shopping.
