Lisbon, Aug. 24.-The farmers have
commenced to pull fodder, cut hay:
and pick peas. The indication looks l
like we ,may get'rain today or tomor
row. The cotton is suffering in no;
small degree. There is no help for
corn that was planted so late in the
season. the farmers did not get
through work, but were forced to stop
hoeing and plowing to do other work.
We can't figure much on our cotton
crop right at this time, from the fact
that we see so little that we can bank
on. However, we will have to do the
best we can, and trust to providence.
Mr. W. L. Teague and family have
gone to the mountains in his car, to
spend a while.
Air. L. E. Corbett has bought another
car.
Mr. John Jack has a new car; in
fact everybody is thinking about a
car, but it takes money to get them.
Dr. C. H. Savage is in the commun
ity looking after the health of the coim
munity with the help of Uncle Sam,
and the people generally are giving
him all the help possible. l)r, Savage
can tell you why people have this aw
ful disease, typhoid fever.
Airs. Norwood Martin is very ill at
this time. We hope that she will soon
get better.
We were sorry to learn that Mr.
.James Moore of Laurens is in the J'ulla
Irby hospital with fever. We trust

feet and will be able to take up his
business at the Mahaffey store.
