* LISBON NEWS, * " " " " " " " " " " "' " " " " Lisbon, Aug. 24.-The farmers have commenced to pull fodder, cut hay: and pick peas. The indication looks l like we ,may get'rain today or tomor row. The cotton is suffering in no; small degree. There is no help for corn that was planted so late in the season. the farmers did not get through work, but were forced to stop hoeing and plowing to do other work. We can't figure much on our cotton crop right at this time, from the fact that we see so little that we can bank on. However, we will have to do the best we can, and trust to providence. Mr. W. L. Teague and family have gone to the mountains in his car, to spend a while. Air. L. E. Corbett has bought another car. Mr. John Jack has a new car; in fact everybody is thinking about a car, but it takes money to get them. Dr. C. H. Savage is in the commun ity looking after the health of the coim munity with the help of Uncle Sam, and the people generally are giving him all the help possible. l)r, Savage can tell you why people have this aw ful disease, typhoid fever. Airs. Norwood Martin is very ill at this time. We hope that she will soon get better. We were sorry to learn that Mr. .James Moore of Laurens is in the J'ulla Irby hospital with fever. We trust that Mr. Moore will soon get upon his feet and will be able to take up his business at the Mahaffey store. Ars. R. T. Dunlap and children, af ter spending several weeks with Richard. on dlie farm, have returned to Laurens. Miss Margaret. Dunlap, of Texas, a charming young lady, has been down with ,them, also Misses Doris Young and Rosa (ray. We are glad to know that Mrs. Ib. 1E. Corbett has returned home after being in the .Julia Irby hospital with fever for more than a month. Mis, Mary Young, a daughter of Mr. 1 we Ye ing, is at the .1ulia Irby hospital, and we hope that she will soon be able to re, turn home. Mr. ltichard )unlap has returned home, after spending several days in preen wood, Abbeville, Clemson and Hlendersonville, N. C. lie went to Clemison to study the cotton business, and will be loented at Mountville this fall, ready to give us a good price for our staple. Master Alford Milam of Greenville is spending awhile with his grand mother, Mrs. Mary Milan. Mrs. .1. T. A. itallew has come homie after spending a fortnight in iliacks burg and Uilon. Mrs. Hogan Walker and children of near Laurens have been visiting in this community. Messrs Fred Little, Willie liender son, C. ii. Babb, Frank ;Caine, Thad and Walter Moore, Hal Moorman, W. P.
