Letter from Laurens boy on the bor der written to his mother: Camp Stewart, El Paso, texas, Wednesday Night, Aug. 16. My Dear Mother: I am sorry that I did not have the time to write to any of the folks at home today but I have been just as busy as usual all day. I did slip off about a half an hour this afternoon and hide. I had planned to write last night but Hammond camne along afd, wanted rue to go into town with hiun so we hit Capt. Malahon for a pass and took tho trip, and 1 would not take anything for it. We left camp aboue one in the afternoon and rode into the city on the train. The round trip cost its a ituarter each. We first went into a barber shop and it was a Mexican barber shop,-yes and nA Mexican cut my hair and charged ie forty cents for it. lie gave me a good one for I had it cut right close. I wish you could have seen inc sittiug there with that old greaser whacking on my eran uinm. I didn't say a word and he didn't say a word, but I watched him I nighty close in the niirror and didn't raise the least particle of kick about the forty cents. After that we went into the prettiest ice creamn parlor I have ever seen. It is called the "Store 3eautittil"'. The ground space is about the size of a base hall dianmond and every detail of the whole tihing is perfe(tly exqluisite. "Fannie" and I went in and bought our little ittle saucer of ice creamn and felt like inil lionla ires on a vacation. We ate just as slow for we wanitetd it to last just as long as possible. I wish so 111iuich that you all coild e' it. The town itself iS not so bretty bit it so unique and unsutal.
