Mrs. Jlas. W. Simpson went on an extended visit to Cheraw a week or so ago. Iler son, Rev. L. K. Simpson, of Tigerville canme down and went with her. Miss Eunice Copeland has been visit ing in Anderson for the palst two weeks. Mliss Addie Simnpson has been visit ing relatives near Greenwood for the past two weeks and will return home some time this week. Mr. 11. 0. Walker went down to Greenwood last Friday on a visit to his sister, Mi's. Mary lIlurnett and oth er relatives. The .lMisses Minnie, liarnie and Grace Wallace camne over to see their sister, Mrs. Alma Pitts one day last week and Miss Grace is staying over a while. Greenville Man SayIs that the State Needs Fewer Terra Votta Heads. Greenville, July 23.-That the fire insurance question is still considered as one of the livest issues of the day by men directly interested, is evidenc ed by a recent circular letter from In surance Coinniissioner Mc Master, and a reply written by W. A. Barton. The latter in his reply speak, of troublo lie is experiencing, and states that what he Is mostly interested in is that the "voters should be warned that terra cotta heads and other defective ien talities should be elintinated from the legislature." The circular letter of the insurance connissioner, and the reply of Mr. Barton are here subjoined: To the Agent Addressed: This is a most urgent appeal to you both in the interest of you rself, the comlpanies you represent, and the public generally. It Is to beg you that you carefully inspect every risk on your books and every risk that you accept see that defects in construe tion or dangerous conditions in re spet to fire are reimoved. Not only is this appeal made for the general interest indiicated above to reduce the fire waste brit because it is reasonably sure that, later in the year the coinpaliQs doing business in this state will restrict their lines inure carefully than even during the past few umonths in view of the fact that they will probably wish to ex tend their lines in the mercantile dis tricts to cover fall stocks of goods. Therefore before expiration and writ ing of new policies your patrons should be warned that terra cotta or other defective lues should be re placed by standard tIues, rotten shin gle roofs replaced by non-comnbusti ble roofs and othe: dangerous condi tions corrected.
