Putnam has returned after a pleasant visit to relatives in Abbe ville and Clinton. Miss Daisy Putnam is visiting rehl tives in Clinton. Mrs. Robert Bryson has returned from 'Columbia where she attended the commencement exercises of Chicora Woman's College. Miss Carrie Stoddard is visiting in Columbia. Mr. Bartlett Owings is the carrier for the cream route which was estab lished here June the first. The route has 69 cows with prospects good for others. Miss Ravenel of Spartanhurg who is connected with the Sunday school work was the guest of Mir. and Mirs. J. L. Gray, for the week-end. The Christian Endeavor contributed one hundred and forty dollars for the war sufferers. We had splendid talks from Miss llavenel and I)r. Brimin, af ter the cnise had been presented by Mr. Rt. T. Miss Floyd of Woodruff has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Claud DuPree. Miss Henrietta Owings is attending the summer school at Rock Hill. Messrs R. T. Wilson, W. Miss Mildred Simmons has returned from Camp Hill. Ala.. where she was GOVERINORI MANNING ISSUES A CALL TO COLORS 1,000 Men are Needed to Bring Two S. C. Regiments up to War Strength. Columbia, June 21.-A call to the patriotic white men of South Carolina to coie to the colors so as to bring the South Carolina National Guarld up to war strength was issued tonight by governor Richard 1. .\anniing. There is urgent need for at least 1,000 more lrecituits for tli two regiments to bring them up to the maximum num ber set by the war department for service in the field. There are about 2,,00 men now uinder arms at camp Moore, the state mobi lization grounds at Styx, and the 1,000 additio:al are wanted for the two reg iments to place them on a war footing. The call was issued for recruits by the governor after his return this af ternoon from the mobilization grounds where lie conferred with colonels Blythe and Springs and Captain Man ning of the Light Dragoons. The Gov ernor went over the camp thoroughly and talked with the oflicers regarding the health and comfort of the men. He was pleased with the situation and while encouraged over the prompt ness with which the men have flocked to the colors since the call was made by President Wilson for ser vice in Mexico, he wants to emphasize the urgent need for the additional 1,000 recruits. lie asks those interest ed in each community to get in touch with available recruits and to notify his secretary Colonel Laroque at his office in Columbia. The Governor has three sons in the service and another is organizing an other company. lie spent today at the camp and will go back tomorrow. The following is the call issued by the (Governor for recruits: "To the people of South Carolina: "A crisis confronts us. The call for service has romte. South ('arolina is expected to do her part. Ouri moln are responding nobly. Abou t 2,uin are now in camp. We need at least 1,000 additional men.
