has made surface travel as speedy as

located in the outlying districts. Elec
tric traction has in a few decades re
leaseil the city from the bondage of
slow transportation and has stimulated
urban growth in a way that would
never have been possible under other
conditions.

the automobile, for the most part a
gasoline engine driven vehicle. In the
form of conhes or busses it is used to
