The Advertiser has nothing to do
with the different conclusions drawn
by Mr. Albert and Mr. Dial from their
figures on the city water and elec
tric light plant. However, since The
Advertiser has always contended that
the city is, or was, paying dearly for
its power and water service, its silence
now might be misunderstood. So, it
is sulllelent to state that the city near
est to Laurens with a similar form of
contract, but with a ,heaper cost of
power, netted over $7,000 in one year
over and above the allowance for
Street lights, water hydrants and ex
tensions.
The organ izationi of a Challber of

not expect the younger ones to should

should the younger ones leave it to

COURT ADJOURNED FRIDAY.
Verdict Against Laurens Motor Car
Company for $1,075.
The Court of Common Pleas ad
journed Friday evening after a two
week's session. The time of the court
was taken up largely with potty suits
over settlement of accounts. Two cas
es of considerable importance were
tried however. Jim Davis, colored,
had a suit against the Clinton Cotton
Mi.'l for personal injuries alleged to
have been sustained while in the ein
l'loy of the defendant comn paay and
becailso of their negligence. The jury
remained out on this case ahnost an
entire day and finally the judge or
leted a mistrial.
in the case of Mr. and Mis. V. B.
Knight vs the iaurens Motor Car Com
pany, the palintiffs seenred a verdict
of $1,075,, a total of $1,575 having been
asked. The suit grew out of the loss
by lire of a barn and contents, in
cluding a new automobile. Melton
Boyd. an employee of the company, so
it was testified, while out on a pleas
ure trip with several friends, stopped
at the home of the plaintiffs to replen
ish his supply of gasoline. While in
the act of drawing the gasoline, an
explosion occurred, due it was thought,
to the lantern carried by Mr. Boyd.
The barn and contents, Including the
automobile, were destroyed. The
plaintiffs contended that as the de
fendant company entrusted their em
ployees with their cars they should be
responsible for any damages done to
others as a result of this liberty. The
jury sustained the contention of the
plaintiffs and awarded a partial ver
dict.
