It Always Helps
says Mrs. Sylvania Woods, of Clifton Mills, Ky., In
writing of her experience with Cardul, the woman's

of Cardui, I began to feel like a new woman. I soon
gained 35 pounds, and now, I do all my housework,
as well as tun a big water mill.
I wish every suffering woman would give

For many years, Senator Jno. L.

under the auspices of the \Voodmen

The mill pond furnished hundreds
of delicious blue bream, trout and
red-breasts. A beef was barbecued,
mutton, pork and fish formed the
basis of the repast, and everybody in
the large crowd had all they could
eat. What a tribute to good order,
not a man drinking, and not a drop
of whiskey anywhere. Instead the
pure artesian water, and the grand
old spring at the foot of the hill, as
clear as crystal and cold as ice.
Senator J. A. lanks, and Mr. W. P.

ALLIES CLAIM BLOCKADE
IS LEGALLY M2AINT ANED
in lIeply to United States, Entente
Powers Blnse Action on Admitted
(light and Asert Their Course is
Governed by Recognized 'rinilles.
Washington, April 20.-According
to authentic information reaching
Washington Great Britain and France,
in their joint note replying to the
American protest against interference
with neutral trade, made no attempt
to dispute principles contended for by
the United States, but insist that those
principles have been given legal in
terpretation and application by the
allies in their blockade of Germany
and Austria.
This note which will be handed to
the state department within the next
(lay or two by the British and French
ambassadors, is understood to be long
and extremely technical, treating of
the whole subject on a purely legal
basis and replying largely on the prin
iples laid down by the United States
in the War Between the States. It is
said that the allies claim that the
linited States does not contend that it
has a right to ship goods without
restrictions into Germany or Austria
Iihrough contiguttos neutral countries,
such as Hlolland, Sweden and Den
mark.
''le concession of the right to block
ode an enemy country, which is uni
versally recognized, is regarded as
necessarily carrying with it the right
to regu late the admission of goods to
a neutral con ntrty evidently destined
to be transferred to the enemy. Con
seq uently it is 'contended that i is
perfectly within the spirit of interna
tional law to limit im pors into a non
tral country such as 1lolland of goods
that niht hie of use to Germany and
.\ustria to the amount normally con
tamed in the neitr al country.
.\lore over. it is: argue'd that inei
Ih nit to the exercise of tihis righ!t of
regulation I imports is til e rlight to
search vessels aiproachin the nt
tral coast. In this connection the
allies hold that while in early days
it was possible to conduct such a
search at sea, conditions of modern
sea tralic have made this impossible;
hence it has become necessary to
take the neutral ship to the nearest
convenient port. This is the explana
tion offered for the apparent unrea
sonable diversion of many ships from
their regular courses and what has
been complained of as an unnecessary
delay in search.
It was with a view to reducing com
plaint on this score that arrange
ments were made for the british em
lassy here to advise with American
shippers whether their cargoes would
probably be subjeteed to search.
Complaint by the United States
that the prize courts cannot he rece

reference to the recent decision in
England to the effect that prize courts

Reliability
O UR absolute faith in the Max
well car is due to two reasons:
First, we have known that
the Maxwell Company uses nothing
in the entire car but the very best
that money can buy. We have
known that the steel is scientifically
heat treated, that the car is built
under the supervision of able engi

many times before it leaves the
factory.
Second, we have known that the
big and well established company
behind the car is building for the
future, that they value a satisfied
owner above everything else.
Now that the Maxwell has set the
