Goldville Schedo. Lst November one of our school rooms was made larger by enclosing the porch, then, four new desks were added to teach room. A new sand table has been added to the primary room. The School improvement Associp tion has been doing good work. It has made fifty dollars which has been used for the improvements made in the school. Ten dollars wbrth of books will soon be added to the library. We have observed Thanksgiving, Christmas and W'ashfngton's birthday by songs and recitations which were rendered beautifully by the little chil dren. Friends and parents gathered to hear them. We are taking great interest in making preparations for the County Fair. \Ve ihope to bring some blue ribbons back with us. I am very sorry to give only four names who get perfect attendance but tons. They are Boulah Baker, fourth, grade; Bessie Taylor, third grade; Ju lia Griflin, fourth grade, and Frank Simpson, sixth grade. We hope to have more next year. - We have two very attractive teach ers, Mrs, Margaret Foucho and Miss Ethel Jones. They have done a great work this year and we hope to have them with us again next year. Patton School. ,Patton school Is located in the up per part of Laurens county in Dis trict No. 1. We have thirty-seven pupils enroll ed and our grades are from the first through the sevqnth. The schoolroolif Is equipped with patent desks, library, maps, diction ary, shades and Iyloplate blackboards. Recently we bought twenty-seven sup plementary readers. The older girls pieced a quilt and sold it for the benefit of the school. We are going to have an ice cream festival soon to raise money for buy ing a teacher's desk and chair. We also expect to plant the' school ground in Irish potatoes this summer, We hope to derive enough money from it to have a jacketed stovp put in next fall. On Friday April 7th we are going to have a little School Fair at the school house to show the things we have made for the benefit of those who can not attend the School Fair. JMountville School. The Mountville graded and high school opened its 1915-16 session on September 6, with about 75 pupils. The enrollment has steadily increased un til now it has reached 124. This is an inerease of 30 over last. year. This in crease has been due to the consolida tion of the Old Mountville school with this school. 'T'his school hires a wag on to bring these children to and from school. The school has been fortunate to have a nusic eacher this year, the first they've had for many years. The Ladies' improvement Association is still doing a noble work, and while we may not be able to see the direct re su lts of their efforts, yet they are plan ning many things for ilprovement of the school. They too, are practicing a play to be given in a few weeks. The high school boys have done work in athletics this year. They had a good team of basketball play ers, and they were victorious in all the games they played except two. They are now busy on their base ball team. As yet they have not played but one game, and they won that. Through entertainments, this school has collected nearly $110. With some of this money they have bought three new stoves. T. tl. Stokes on agricul ture. Last year three got perfect attend ance buttons, Carrie and E'thtel Cun ninghtani and J. L. Chancy. WViss Leah Martin is our teacher. Blarksdlale School. Barksdale school has so fat' enjoyed a very ptleasant and p~rofltale year. There have been a number of improve nients made by the Rural School Im ptrovement Association and piupils of the school. A new stove, song books and map of L~aurons county htave been adhded. We have finished the payment on our pianto and also itadle an addi tion to our' library both of supplemten tary readei's and pictur'es. We have miade impr~iovemenits it our yard and also observed two clean-up (lays. 'The association atnd school have raised the amtotunt of fifty-ninie dlollars anid six ty-eighut cents. rTe association Itas held monthly mteetings as usual. We have had two plays and a llallowe'en piarty,. at which the ladies ser'vedl re freshtments; also held Thanksgiving exerceises. Rev. Thtere are several who haven't miss ed a day thtis year-Rluth Todd, Sarah Yeargin, I~dith Yeargln and Rttby Todd. Our teachers this year are Mrs. Earl Owens, principal; Miss .I~va Shell :nsnistant. Prospect School. This has been the most successful year that we have had in a number of years. We have teachers who are interested in the work and that of course. is a great help to the pupils. We have also a great many new pupils, and that too, has helped our school to take on new life. We have seventy-three pu hils enrolled. We have a Rural limi provement Association which meets one Friday afternoon in every month. It discusses matters, that pertain to the betterment of the school, and lends encouragement to the teachers and pupils. Several times during the year we have had public entertainment, to which quite a number of the patrons and friends came. On the 25th of February the S. I. A. gave a box sup-' per and realized $19.00. This money will be spent for school improvement. We are setting out hedges and flowers to beautify our grounds; We are now getting ready for the fair which, we hope, will be a great success. Copeland School. Our school has an eight months term We have been striving to do every thing to help the cause of education. In addition to the regular school work we had a night school. We feel sure that this year has been a profit able one. Our School Improvement ,Association is organized among the pupils. We have had five public meet ings. The first one was an oyster supper. Thanksgiving the association entertained their parents with appro priate exercises, after which refresh ments were served. 'Christmas we had a Christmas tree. There were songs and recitations, after which! Santa unloaded the tree for us. March ninth, the association gave an enter tainment, in which the whole school took part. There were songs, recita tions, plays and tableaus. The other was given by a magician. The amount raised from these enter tainments has been spent in different ways. Some has gone to buy material for entertainments, some (with other money) has bought supplementary readers and library books. and some is still in the treasury. The general educational interest has been good. Everyone in the commun ity has taken interest in the school this year. They have met with their duties and it was appreciated by the pupils and teachers. Our attendance has been good the whole year. Cross Hill SchoA. 1)u ring the present session of tlhe Cross 11111 high school a number off improvements have been made. One class room has been refurnished with new single desks at a cost of $77.00. Two other rooms15 have been supplied with sets of new maps. Three new heaters have been placed in the school building. Water coolers have beens purchased, lights replaced, new winl (low shades furnished, floors re-oiled. shade trees planted, and other minor improvements and repairs made, all at a cost of about fifty dollars. The school has a good w orking Im1 provement Association which is large ly responsible for much of the im provements made. This association, together with the teachers and pupils have given a number of entertain ments, including concerts, plays, read ings, suppers, etc., by means of which $150.00 has been raised for improve ments. More than $125.00 has already been expiend~ed in the imlprovemlentIs abhove mnaioned0(. The chairs cost twelve and onle-hialf dol lars andl tile dictionary ten dollars. WVe hlave aded foirty-flve newv books to our library, costing fifteen dollars, and twenty song books. We made boxes for the windows to plant flowers in and had hyacinths growing in wvater'. We observe clean-up day once or twice each month. Each month we putl ap propriate borders on the blackboards. We have nice coolers and individual drinking cups. Each week we bring ouir fancy work and twice eachl month we bring ourF cookies. We have bought stove imlemonents. We tried having the School Improvenment Association but were not sulccessful. We hayen't raised much mloney tis year b~ut ex 1)ect to bletore school is out.
