Miss Mattie Dean, supervisor of ru ral schools of Greenville county, spent the week-end in the city with her sis ter, Miss Sue Dean. -Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Wilkes, of Nor folk, Va., arrived in the city Monday to visit Mr. W~filkes' brothers and sisters here. Mrs. Walter H. Powell arrived in the city yesterday from North Carolina to spend some time as the guest of Mrs. Rosa I. Caine and Mrs. Dial Gray. Mr. Wilkes Dendy of Seneca who is atending college at Clinton ran up to Laurens and spent Saturday and Sunday with friends. Jane Blackwoll, the young child of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Miss Dorothy Hludgens, -who is at tending Cokoer College, at Hartsville, has been spending several days in the city with her parents. Miss Maud Langston, of Laurens, on her return trom the state teacher's convention, stopped over for the week end with her sister, Miss Ella Lang ston, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Wolk, Pomaria.-Newberry Ob server, Miss Lillian Kibler, of the Laurens high school faculty, spent the week end at her home in Newberry. Miss Lillian Salters, of Clinton, on her re turn from the state meeting of teach ers in Columbia, spent. the week-end with Miss Kibler.-Newbery Observer. Dr. J. M. Bearden spent several days last week in Columbia, attending a meeting of the Medical Reserve Corps of the National Guard, in which he ranks as first lieutenant. Miss Helen Jones has returned from Cartersville, Ga., where she went to attend the marriage of her sister, Miss i-tattle Jones and Dr. Harvey C. Hen. derson, of Charlotte. Rev. D. A. Jeffcoat, Mr. W. B. Mead ows, Jr., and Rev. 13. W. Crouch were among the visitors in Laurens during the recent. revival meeting. They were the guests of Mr. Charley McCravy and others. Mr. J. W. Todd made a business trip to Greenwood, Abbeville and Donalds Friday, returning the same day. This was Mr. Todd's first visit to 'Donalds since the city was a hamlet and he was very much pleased with the evidence of growth and progress there. He spent several hours around the 'depoo" looking over the city and en joying the pleasing atmosphere. Gus Cunningham Wocord, the 12 year old body of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wofford of Madden, came very near losing his right eye when a stick or stove woodl struck it. He wvas carriedl at once to DrI. IHughes, wvho gave im mediate treatment and holds out the hope that the injury will not affect the sigh. This is the second accident of the kind that has happened in this family in a short while. Fletcher of the Furman University has accepted an invitation to preach at the First Baptist church next Sunday morning and evening. Dr. Fletcher is well-known as one of the South's leading educators and those who hear him are assured of an ex cellent address. Meeting of U. D. C. The J. B. Kershaw chapter, U. D. C., will meet with Mrs. J. S. Bennett Tuesday afternoon, March 28th, at 3:30 o'cloc. As this meeting will com memorate the birthday of Gen.
