Search for Fugitive. Greenville, Jan. 29.-Sheriff Rector, Chief Gosnell of the rural police and numerous posses are scouring the country tonight for a negro who at tacked a young married woman at an early hour this morning in her home on the outskirts of the city. All railroads are being closely guarded and trains searched here and at points between here and Seneca. It Is be lieved that if the negro is caught with in a radius of 25 milen of Greenville he will be lynched, unless the oflicers succect In carrying him to Columbia. The young woman was attacked in her home and was choked almost to :strangulation whent a small (log of the family sprang upon her assailant and he released his hold. As he ran from the house the woman grasped a pistol and fired two shots, neither of which is believed to have been effective. The struggle and gasping of the woman, combine(d with the barking of the dog and the screams of the children of the family attracted neighbors, who immediately began the man hunt. The negro is briught yellow, about six feet tall, wore a brown suit and was haltless. Up to a late hour tonight no word has been received from any of the posses, although ollicers feel conildent that their net. Anderson, .Ian. 29.--Austin Hall of Iva, the young man who was recently awarded a bronze medal by the Car negio hero fund commission for saving the life of Edward Harris, has just received notice that he will also be given $1,000 In money as further reocgnition of his heroic act. Mr. Hall Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. .1. A. Hall and is a young farmer. In August, 1912, 1 dward Harris was digging a well on the place of It. S. Yeargin, and while in the well was overcome by poisonous gas. Austin Hall Is a nephew of Mr. Yeargin and happened to be around at the time. Knowing that the negro would soon suffocate if not brought to the sur face he had himself let down into the well, tied a rope around the uncon scious body and had him drawn to the surpace. When lall was pulled from the well he had almost became suffocated from the gas also, and was quite ill for a short. time.
